Watching this feels like unlocking a core memory of sitting at a wooden desk with the smell of old paper in the air. Cursive used to be a rite of passage, but now it’s practically a secret language for anyone born after 2005.
There is a certain soul in the flow of a pen that a keyboard just can’t replicate. It’s hypnotic, it’s therapeutic, and honestly, that final flourish is the kind of closure I need in my life right now.
Who else remembers the struggle of getting those loops just right?

That's one of the things that drove me insane near the end of my banking career. I was the only person in the office who read anything, kept up with the news, looked up random Wikipedia articles for the Hell of it, hiked on the weekends, etc. Everyone else was on social media.

What’s more alarming than the decline in literacy is the total passivity & indifference that you see in so many people. No passions, no hobbies, not a single ember of wonder at the unfamiliar or willingness to learn new things. Ignorance can be cured, but incuriosity is death.

"Performative reading" is such a bizarre concept to me. Why would anyone care enough to *pretend* to read? I don't get the point. I used to have daily hour-long commutes on BART, the subway system here in SF. I'd spend all of that time reading or getting my college homework done.

Most of life occurs in those ten-minute stretches where nothing seems to be happening. You’d be shocked at how much reading you can get done while you’re standing in line or riding the subway. There’s no such thing as “performative reading” when we are in a literacy crisis.

I know people react badly to it because they don’t want to feel judged or condescended to, but there’s no defense for the low literacy rate here. It’s not an individual problem, it’s a complete dismantling of the national project. Now being literate is framed as pretentious.

People don't understand that "play in release order" isn't meant to be some elitist nonsense, it's because the game is being made with the knowledge of the developers after creating their first series of games. It's sequential regardless of how it's presented.
