@a_anidorama @eclipsepetals_ whats worse, I doubt Wu Shoguang had all the intimate knowledge of original Wuhuo and Ji Ling. So, Li Jie likely doesn't even know that he is 1. made from someone else and 2. that the hollow emptiness in his chest has an explanation. Or that it had a name, at one point.

@eclipsepetals_ it is not, his eyes are empty even when the city and the people are bustling with activity. i've been teaching cinematography for the last 8 years so it pains me so much to say this, but it was not the way to convey hope at all. he is doomed to try to fill that vacant space.

@yufanyell @Lou_Anne0404 Since Ji Ling and Lu Wuyi didn't survive as their real selves, it's not a happy ending. Whatever that other couple is, albeit cute, is not them. As for Wangyuan... she didn't just forget Lu Wuyi, she also forgot Wu Shanguan. Even if they get together, it's not his original Wu.

@redoktavia @fernforgive Drama was made for Lu Wuyi's actress, as her fans were the ones who carried the show (with its abysmal promotions). TJR just got used as a tool to support her character. He is talented, so GJM latched onto him like a parasite and will use him to shoulder his abysmal plots

@Poppybun21 @fernforgive No the plot is all over the place especially towards the end, tbh this drama was just to push ji lings actor to the front and center plus his couple, everyone else is a side character in his play which is fine it’s the usual way however presenting it as a group is crazy

It warms my heart to see people finally starting to talk about the downsides. I personally realized I will not like this drama after the way Li Jie treated puppet!Ji Ling (with annoyance and anger) while Ji Ling was calling out for him for help. The only semi-logical story

now that #VeilOfShadows is over, some thoughts to share. I liked the actors,aesthetics, the CGI, bgm, and sympathized with the characters, but aside from that, the plot..was a clusterfk. a lot of plot points used for wow factor and conveniently forgotten, everything feels amiss+

Earlier god forbid if you criticized anything- you would've been attacked for "being too stupid to understand deep and perfectly written plot". Which to me is quite surprising, cause its the opposite of what western fandoms usually do.

Nothing exists beyond the romance between the main couple in that drama.
There were so many characters with interesting set ups - and none of them were developed at all. All aesthetics and vibes and zero character arcs.

Another point in vos that is one of it biggest flaws is that the relationship between ji ling and wu shiguang is NON EXISTENT! This is crazy to me considering gjm traits and the fact one is the false dragon deity who was waiting for the tenth dragon to appear (wu shiguang itself)

remember when he slayed this scene in one-take & left the dp(s) amazed because to shoot the blood tears effect, special liquid had to be dripped into the eyes. it’s painful & truly tests an actor’s skills & endurance. plus, rui has had lasik 😭
