In memory of Neil: it was a privilege on Friday to mark the formal completion of this new @NewhamLondon housing scheme we completed in Plaistow South ward - and name it after our late colleague and dear friend, Cllr Neil Wilson, who would have marked his birthday on this past Monday. It was also special to have as our guest Colin Wilson, Neil’s brother to be their with us on behalf of the family. 🕊️🤍 Neil was a champion for his community, and there is no better way to honour his legacy than by providing high-quality, permanent homes for Newham families. Championing our communities is the reason we remain laser-focused on our goal to deliver genuinely affordable homes our people can afford across the borough. As part of our ‘Affordable Homes for Newham’ housing delivery programme - the New City Road passivehaus development is a testament to our commitment to social justice, delivering 28 new homes at 100% social rent, and includes three truly wonderful adapted homes for people with disabilities. Pleased to see @insidehousing's piece on Carpenters Estate progress by Chaminda Jayanetti (paywalled but worth it if you have access). 💭After 20 years of false starts, what's finally working? Meaningful co-design. Our Project Director Nick Clough says: "By doing genuine co-design, you end up with something that's a little bit different" - rooted in the community's wants and needs. Resident Adeel, who has lived on the estate for 30 years and sits on the steering group: "The architects call me and then they’ll talk about what the plans are. We’ll talk about things like letting policy [and] give some feedback on consultations that they hold" On Carpenters Estate, @NewhamLondon is working towards a better version of regeneration, where we can support communities to design their own future rather than simply adapt to someone else's vision. @rokhsanafiaz #socialhousing #regeneration

We're pleased to announce that Station Quarter's design team is now confirmed, bringing us closer to delivering a new neighbourhood for the Carpenters Estate 🏙️ Every appointment at Carpenters follows @NewhamLondon's Community Wealth Building principles laid out in the council's Inclusive Growth Plan and Community Wealth Building Strategy. Working under Newham's direction, we've appointed @Met_Work alongside @burofour, @LDADesign, @Pell_Frischmann, @turleyplanning and @CummingEMEA to design approximately 500 homes and a new high street on the doorstep of Stratford Station. These teams demonstrated how bold design and measurable social value can work hand-in-hand, ensuring ongoing development serves existing communities alongside future residents. With the Phase 1 retrofit of James Riley Point underway and Phase 2 planning imminent, 2026 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the Carpenters Estate. Today’s includes ✅ Quarterly update to Cabinet on our Housing Service Improvement Plan by cabinet member @blossomyoung following the October 2024 C4 grading: it’s progressing and we’ve committed to a Voluntary Undertaking with the @RSHEngland ✅ Housing Revenue Account Business Plan update: investing £325m in our council stock over the next 5-years including £110m increase in funding for 2026/27 & 2027/2; & £70m allocated for 5 years for Building Safety 👍🏽 ✅ Populo Living Business Plan 2026/27 as our award-winning housing delivery company @PopuloLiving continues to provide expert development management to the Council as we deliver homes our people can afford 👍🏽
