On January 17th the L.R. Wilson Heritage Research Archives and Port Colborne Public Library will be hosting a Community Scan Day. Conserve your own history by making digital scans of; photographs, documents, recipes, mementos, and more. Appointments are required.

If you are interested in learning more about this topic, Brian de Ruiter will be presenting ‘Was the Enemy in Our Midst? The Erie Peat Company During WWII’ this Saturday in the L.R. Wilson Heritage Research Archives at 1:00pm. Email archives@portcolborne.ca to learn more.

The donor shared that it had been made by a prisoner of war, circa 1943-1945. During WWII, a POW camp for merchant marine workers was operated at the Erie Peat Company, just outside of Port Colborne. Those at the camp often came into town and would have seen Sherk’s Service Stat.
