@Labour_Douglas Thank you for your understanding of the circumstances, which have definitely improved for us smaller farms but for the bigger food producers, I expect there will still be a degree of jeopardy and anxiety. @NFUStweets @NFUtweets @ScotLandEstates

Labour are cracking down on tax avoiders whilst ensuring this is not at the expense of hard working family farmers.
I welcome the changes to agricultural property tax, meaning family farms like the Scott-Parks' @PortnellanFarm in West Dunbartonshire can continue for generations.

❄️🥶As well as looking after and feeding livestock in very difficult conditions, farmers have been helping clear roads and assisting members of the public struggling with the treacherous conditions.
Among those who have been helping drivers stuck in snow is the Ross family who farm near Tarland, Aberdeenshire (pictured).
We’re very proud of our farmers - thank you for going above and beyond. Please take care out there ❤️ #KeepTalking #KeepHelping #KeepSafe #KeepWarm

Farmers in their 90s have written a letter to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer asking which day they will need to die to avoid Inheritance Tax changes. 🚨😔
The letter, written by dairy and arable farmers Mr and Mrs Denton, was written to the Prime Minister on Sunday, a day before he was summoned to the Liaison Committee.

🐄My first visit for #SmallBusinessSaturday was to the fully organic @PortnellanFarm in Gartocharn on the banks of Loch Lomond.
🚤🏠I was extremely impressed by their diversification, offering accommodation for a relaxing weekend away and fun water activities right on the Loch!

Last week, we did a post all about a typical day at Mossgiel
We’re got tonnes of questions about it but particularly, our calf with calf system had the most enquiries
So here’s a bit more of a behind the scene peek about how we make it work
If you live in Scotland and want to support our different way to dairy - from keeping calves and mums together on our home farm to supporting other small scale organic farms; check out our website at MossgielFarm.co.uk to find your nearest stockist or doorstep delivery partner

A few weeks ago things looked rough.
Losing the schools contract meant we suddenly had thousands of litres of milk every week with no home - and yes, some of it went down the drain :(
For the first time in a long time I was staring at the real possibility of having to make people redundant.
But then something incredible happened. Our community rallied, enquiries poured in (so many that we couldn’t keep up) and instead of letting good people go we changed some roles around AND we’ve been able to add someone new to our herd!!
So, meet Jason, our new Supporter Growth COO-ordinator!
His role exists because of all of YOU - you believed in us, asked for Mossgiel in your homes and businesses and kept us on our feet when the ground felt like it was slipping away.
Now, we still have a couple of thousand litres a week to find homes for, so we’re not out of the woods yet, but with Jason on board we’re in a far stronger place than we were just weeks ago.
If we haven’t managed to reply to your message or call yet, I’m sorry. Jason is the moo human in the herd who will make sure no supporter is left waiting, and we can’t wait to introduce you properly!
Hard times test us – but they also make us!
Thank you for being the reason we’re still here, fighting and finding new ways forward for the awesome thing that is... SMALL dairy.

Saddened beyond words to hear of the death of Professor Sir Kenneth Calman KCB. One of the most exceptionally brilliant & yet, most humblest of men Sir Kenneth served his @UofGlasgow with distinction right up until the very end. Thoughts are with Lady Ann. Sleep well, Chancellor

*News* Huge win for #AnimalWelfare! After years of campaigning by BVA & others, we're delighted that the #PuppySmugglingBill has got the MPs' vote.
It now heads to @UKHouseofLords - once passed, it'll help end puppy smuggling & import of pets with harmful mutilations. @DannyVet

Really interesting development - retailers legislated to publish data on healthy food sales. I’ve been saying for a while this should happen for sourcing - an annual report summarising the country of origin food sales. Transparency for consumers -thoughts? bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
