First Blood recognizes the significance of this date as we continue to remember and honor all fallen ILWU workers. A memorial plaque stands at Wilmington Waterfront Park, near C Street and Neptune Ave. in remembrance.

The #PortofLA joins the International Longshore and Warehouse Union in commemorating First Blood. On May 15, 1934, a violent encounter between longshore workers and company-paid strikebreakers occurred in Wilmington, amid a fight for fair wages and safer working conditions.

The Port of Los Angeles this week welcomed a delegation from the Department of Commerce Hebei Province, highlighting the continued collaboration between Los Angeles and Huanghua Port, operated by Hede Shipping. Hede launched its first direct service from Shanghai to L.A. in 2024.
