@animathias @insigzeroes I somehow beat the lost levels on this as a kid, but only because there were unlimited continues. It was still absolute hell to get through

@insigzeroes I forgot to mention that's unlockable. I can't even imagine trying to do Lost Levels this zoomed in. It was such a mean game already, literally playing on what you know from 1.

Super Mario Bros. DX for the Game Boy Color is fascinating in many ways. If you ever wondered why they started with Mario 2 in their Advance series on the GBA, it's because 1 got its glow up about 2 years prior. DX featured a basic world map and a challenge mode with red coins or yoshi eggs. The biggest difference is obviously in the visuals. The Game Boy Color lives up to its name, delivering over double the onscreen colors of the NES. The system was more than capable of running the game nice and smoothly even with the added color. The audio got a nice boost, even though it's still 8-bit. Stereo sound goes a long way. The elephant in the room is the resolution. The GBC outputs roughly 60% what the NES can, so there's a ton that gets left out if you're going 1 to 1 for console games. Luckily Mario 1 isn't exactly an intense game, and they give you options to help. Pressing Select will pull the camera up to let you see more ahead of you, and pressing up and down scrolls respectively. I'm sad I never got to see this on my system back then. I bet it looks amazing on the Color's screen. #RetroGaming
