@InTheHalfPearl I don't demand clarity, actionability, 'protest music,' etc.
English

@PostWither I think billy woods creates that sort of direct, actionable art while Elucid’s ‘material’ statements are buried between the lines. Idk man. Pointing at an Elucid album and demanding clarity feels like fundamentally refusing to engage with the text meaningfully

@chlouds121600 @InTheHalfPearl I dont know why people expect traditional reviews on AOTY of all places anyway every third "review" is a one-liner
English

@PostWither @InTheHalfPearl there are so many reviews out there where people just plainly state what they think of an album in overly simple terms; I think what you're doing is cool. I think people have maybe grown to expect certain ways of presenting ideas on review sites, but, who cares
English

@InTheHalfPearl I don't write with any audience in mind but myself. I don't promote my stuff. I don't advertise myself. I don't like the scale of the audience I've amassed. I do it all for me and people can pick from me what they like.
English

@InTheHalfPearl Scatterbrained and idiosyncratic as they are. Often, I am grappling with other texts too! As I am here; an essay by Hakim Bey, Critique of the Listener, and one by Perlman, The Continuing Appeal of Nationalism. I don't summarize either text or cite them directly;

English

@chlouds121600 body recorded it. To be into that weird niche shit you had to be a very active participant. It allowed easily for a mainstream of acceptable sounds to propagate and to encompass most people. But as time has gone on the tools you need to make music have been democratized. Now the

"No new genres of music" is crazy bitch they producing sounds hitherto thought impossible right now
Sturgeon's Law@Sturgeons_Law
Basically true of most other areas of culture, too. No new genres of music, etc. So much modern culture is backward-looking & revivalist, to an unprecedented extent relative to past eras that also involved revivals. Something is happening we don't fully understand yet

It is now clear that “just let people like things” has paradoxically produced an environment where music writers can routinely expect to receive death threats for mild critiques of k-pop while philistines get clicks for making sweeping, moronic comments about the Beatles and jazz
Karajan Respektor@AncientSavant
I’m convinced that people like the idea of jazz a lot more than they actually like jazz.
