🚨 Stafford residents voiced strong fears over a possible 5,000–10,000-bed ICE detention center during last night’s Board of Supervisors meeting — citing a Washington Post report and worries for families and children. Multiple speakers urged the Board to pass a resolution opposing “dehumanizing facilities.” The Board declined, citing no active proposal, land-use limits, and concerns about stirring unnecessary fear. Also discussed: tax pressures, arts expansion at Riverside Center, sports tourism ideas, and road fixes in Lake Arrowhead. Full story drops in today’s 4 p.m. newsletter. A Fredericksburg resident is calling for the return of the slave auction block removed in 2020, comparing it to the “Arbeit Macht Frei” sign at Auschwitz and arguing painful history belongs in place to force discomfort, education, and remembrance. At a recent event, Guy Gormley urged officials to reinstall the block at William and Charles streets and incorporate it into the planned memorial, calling the current project “a waste” without it. Read the full story on this powerful local debate over history, memory, and how Fredericksburg confronts its past as it prepares for its 2028 tricentennial. Full story in our 4 p.m. newsletter. 🚰 Stafford homeowners — heads up: Your water and sewer bills may increase 5–6% over the next few years. The Board of Supervisors just moved forward with rate adjustments and new fees for reclaimed (non-potable) water, tied to data center growth. The good news? Data centers are funding the major "Purple Pipe" infrastructure upgrade. The catch? A new tiered structure for high-use commercial customers could shift more costs around. Want the full details — what it means for your bill, the timeline, and why this is happening now? Check the 4 p.m. newsletter. 🗣️OPINION: The tragic, senseless murder of Stephanie Minter—a 41-year-old mother from Fredericksburg, described by her family as a "happy, jolly" beam of light—has rocked Northern Virginia. On February 23, 2026, she was brutally stabbed to death at a Hybla Valley bus stop in Fairfax County in what authorities call a random attack. The suspect? Abdul Jalloh, 32, a Sierra Leone national who entered the U.S. illegally in 2012. He's charged with second-degree murder and held without bond. Jalloh's rap sheet is staggering: over 30 prior arrests, including rape, malicious wounding (attempted murder-level violence), assault, identity theft, drug possession, and more. Many charges were dropped by Fairfax County prosecutors, allowing him to remain free despite an ICE removal order from 2020. DHS lodged a detainer immediately after his arrest, blasting Virginia's "sanctuary" approach and calling on Governor Abigail Spanberger to ensure this violent career criminal isn't released without notifying ICE. Yet Spanberger, a former federal law enforcement officer, signed executive orders on day one ending state cooperation with ICE—terminating 287(g) agreements and requiring judicial warrants for detainers instead of automatic compliance. Critics, including DHS, Rep. Ben Cline, and others, argue these policies enabled a preventable tragedy, letting repeat offenders like Jalloh stay in our communities to commit more crimes. This isn't about politics—it's about public safety. Innocent Americans like Stephanie Minter shouldn't pay the price for lax enforcement and dropped charges. Virginia families deserve better: full cooperation with federal authorities to deport violent criminals before they strike again. Rest in peace, Stephanie. Justice for her family means holding leaders accountable. Thoughts? Should Virginia reverse these sanctuary policies? #Spanberger #VirginiaNews #FairfaxCounty #PublicSafety #Immigration #StephanieMinter
