As the conflict continues in the Middle East, the farming community in South Africa is increasingly worried about rising input costs, particularly fertiliser and fuel. On both, the issue is not that South Africa has a supply constraint, but fear about the path ahead. Others are also worried about the impact of these developments on consumer food prices. What follows are broad views on how we should approach these issues. dailymaverick.co.za/opinionista/20…

Food price increases pushed headline inflation higher in recent months, with the surge in meat prices being the main culprit. Heavy rains caused vegetable inflation to also spike, adding to price pressures. Read more insights about the domestic and international developments affecting prices and monetary policy in the October 2025 edition of the Monetary Policy Review, available here: resbank.co.za/en/home/public…

I know some people have strongly argued that we must deepen our trade with the African continent to lessen the higher exposure to some risky regions. The African continent does present opportunities for the various sectors of our economy, but for agriculture, I am not as optimistic, at least in the near term. My piece is here: wandilesihlobo.com/2025/08/05/my-…

If we let them take away the life of our crops through their genetic engineering, we’re done! Organic living is synonymous with who we are as Africans. #SayNOtoGMOs

It's not about starting a business but remaining in business. Every Tom, Dick and Harry can start one, but very few can stay in business.

It is ABSURD that Home Affairs insists parents must accompany learners for ID Applications. Our parents go to work in the early hours of the morning, and return at night. Learners must be allowed to submit certified copies of parents’ IDs or Home Affairs must open on Saturdays!

I chose piggery over buying a car, not because I couldn’t afford one, but because I believe in building assets before comfort. A car brings convenience, but a business builds a foundation. Piggery might seem simple, but for me, it’s a step toward financial freedom, daily growth, and long-term stability. I’m not in a rush to impress anyone. I’m in it to invest. The car will come, smarter, better, and not from a loan, because I chose to plant seeds today instead of picking fruit too soon. This is delayed gratification. This is vision over vanity. It’s how wealth is truly built.
