@Neetwit How were people of such calibre chosen despite previous allegations&clear signs of inefficiency &incapability, only to undermine the mangt of Gov institutions? In doing so,they’re not only tarnishing &misleading the nation, but also damaging the image &credibility of their own party

@adaderanasin Clear sign that things are spiraling out of control. If electricity, gas, & fuel prices continue to rise, salaries across the board, private & public sector & pensioners , must be increased by at least 25% to keep pace. This should form part of a “Keep-Up Matrix,”

Finally! PayPal support is here in Sri Lanka thanks to the current government’s efforts. Previous governments promised for over 15 years but couldn’t get it done. Massive win for freelancers, SMEs & our digital economy! 🇱🇰💳 #PayPalSL

@SJBpower Sri Lanka would need to be extremely cautious about potential future restrictions, trade and tariff related consequences, and increased international scrutiny the country could face.

@SJBpower This appears to be a large scale corruption issue related to the SL passport tender process. If Poland were to formally raise complaints with the EU or the UN, Sri Lanka would need to be extremely cautious about potential future restrictions, trade and tariff-related consequences,

@adaderanasin An Int investigation must be initiated to ensure fairness to the gov& individuals involved,in light of the alleged $2.5million fraud, the death of Mr.Ranga& the 323container fraud case first reported by Mr.Dan particularly given the lack of public confidence in local authorities.

@PriyankaraMM We don’t believe many people in SL fully grasp the sensitivity and potential risks to national security associated with a digital ID system. In a country where corruption, fraud and crime remain concerns, implementing such a system could carry serious unintended consequences.

@HarshadeSilvaMP SL should call for an independent int investigation, potentially involving the FBI & Scotland Yard, into treasury funds ($2.5M, Rs.13.5Billion NDB), Rebuild Sri Lanka Fund entire transactions, over 320-container scam, and spending of over $30M (diesel) and over $150M (coal)etc

ST has informed me now that he is not able to present himself at the Committee on Public Finance tomorrow to discuss the issues regarding the missing USD 2.5m. This is unacceptable as the Constitution of #SriLanka places full control of public Finance with Parliament and by standing order COPF is DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE for OVERSIGHT on DEBT REPAYMENT among many other important matters. Thus, him being summoned is not an act of discretion but a constitutional duty of the Committee. He has to answer questions by the committee. And he had the opportunity to put the ‘record straight’ if by any chance he was being wrongly accused. But why is he running away? What is there to hide? As the incumbant ST he has a responsibility. He must fulfil that responsibility or if he cannot, he must give it to someone who can. This is also personal to him since he is the first ever politician to occupy this important civil service position; he sat as an MP of the JVP/NPP government and even as a member of our Committee till the day before this appointment. This high handed act shows total lack of respect for the parliamentary system of checks and balances that is so critical post-crisis [that is why the COPF is chaired by a member of the opposition since the 2022 meltdown]. It is a kick in the face of the promised ‘system change’ the people of this country voted for. It is also a breakdown of the undertaking to @IMFNews on governance. His excuse is that President will address Parliament next week and he can come by thereafter. That is not acceptable and unrelated.

@Dailymirror_SL A complete failure of governance,it resembles organized crime, & there’s no justification for it.There should be a call for an independent international investigation into all alleged fraud & criminal activity within the government before the situation deteriorates further.

@Prashandevisser What we are witnessing today can’t be described as leadership,It is a shame to see a standard that doesn’t reach even 10% of what true leadership requires. We must not expect from them what they are clearly unable to deliver. This may well be one of the biggest failures ever in SL

Blaming government employees for the NPP’s failures is weak, spineless leadership. Real leadership means owning mistakes, apologizing to the public, understanding what went wrong, and implementing systemic fixes to prevent repeat failures. That’s how trust is rebuilt and hope restored. Instead, we’re seeing a troubling pattern: 1. Shifting blame to state employees 2. Blaming previous regimes 3. Downplaying failures by comparison 4. Dismissing corruption concerns without proper investigation 5. Targeting whistleblowers and journalists 6. Mobilizing supporters to whitewash clear failures Shifting responsibility onto public servants is one of the cheapest excuses especially from a party that came to power with overwhelming public sector support, led unions against reform, and dismissed efficiency measures, and trimming down inflated government sector as “neoliberal.” Now, to turn around and blame the very same workforce for its own shortcomings is both hypocritical and unacceptable. #WeakLeadership #Incompetence #Excuses #LessonsNotLearned #NPP

@Prashandevisser Everyone has limits to their capacity, capability, and competence, nothing more should be expected beyond that. It’s easy to speak at length when there’s no accountability or credibility at stake, but when it comes to real action, the failure has been absolute.

@Prashandevisser Crimes and fraud at this scale can have serious spillover effects on the broader economy, they undermine trust with institutions like the IMF and the World Bank, weaken investor confidence, and put pressure on sovereign credit ratings and overall international reputation.

During the presidential and parliamentary elections, I made it a point to closely evaluate the individuals the NPP was promoting as the future leadership of Sri Lanka. What I saw then was deeply concerning — a lot of noise, a lot of hype, but very little real substance. There was no meaningful track record, no proven competence, just exaggerated narratives. Fast forward a year into governance — and those concerns have been validated again and again. What we are witnessing today is not just incompetence. It’s a dangerous combination of inexperience, arrogance, and a refusal to take accountability. A “we know everything” attitude paired with childish defensiveness when things go wrong. The recent $2.5 million treasury scam is a perfect example. Look at the chaos: The Finance Secretary says it was a hacking. The Deputy Minister says it was not a hacking. Another claims investigations only started two days ago. Others admit it wasn’t even reported properly. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister is already declaring there’s “no corruption” — before the investigation is even complete. Which version are we supposed to believe? Even more alarming now we’re hearing that additional documents have gone missing. This isn’t just mismanagement. This is systemic failure. Sri Lanka doesn’t have the luxury of learning through trial and error at this level. This is not about politics anymore. This is about competence, accountability, and the future of the country. Right now, we are being governed by confusion, contradiction, and crisis. We promised “system change”. We’re now experiencing “system failure”

@Prashandevisser The real concern is how such unqualified and ill-prepared individuals were entrusted with managing an economy of this complexity, this is a complete failure. An independent international investigation, free from local institutional influence, is essential..

Sri Lanka has a real opportunity now. Many businesses and investors from Dubai, Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi are looking to relocate because of the situation in the Middle East. We can bring them to Port City, Hambantota or elsewhere, but we can’t do everything at once. First, we must change our old mindset, break down the walls, and build proper bridges to the world. Port City should be made a true special economic zone for IT and knowledge services, like Dubai Financial City or GIFT City in India, with completely different regulations. At the same time, we must stop changing laws that destroy our competitive edge and avoid attracting the wrong kind of investments like scam centers. We need quality investments that create real jobs. This window won’t stay open forever. #PortCity #SriLanka #ITHub #EconomicReforms #Investment
