Great to see the Govt pushing to decriminalize 300+ provisions! Less jail time for minor offences is a brilliant move. 👏 BUT... hear me out. For the truly heinous crimes, the ones that could be easily avoided and show a complete lack of human consideration, we need the opposite. I'm talking: - The "2-Minute" Middle-of-the-Road Parkers: 5 years in jail. No parole. - The Street Wrapper Tossers: Life sentence. - Playing music on phone in public place: solitary confinement These are "crimes of willful inconvenience." When Naval Ravikant @naval & Babak Nivi @nivi founded @AngelList in 2010 the aim was to democratise angel investing via investor syndicates. This was the period of big angels emerging in Silicon Valley in the Uber, Airbnb era. But over the past few years the platform has pivoted to becoming more of a software services play for funds away from its original business of offering a platform for pooling in capital from individual angels. As for AngelList in India, it is relooking at its strategy amid sweeping changes introduced by Sebi for the angel investing industry. 🚨🚨IMP points from my conversation with CEO Avlok Kohli @avlok in San Francisco.. AngelList is reassessing its India play as Sebi’s revised norms tighten eligibility and increase cheque sizes for angel funds. Many in the industry say the rules are going to wipe off most of the angels as strict accreditation will be needed to invest. “We’ve worked with Indian VC funds and startups indirectly, but the compliance layers are heavy. We’ll watch closely as those rules evolve,” Kohli said. He said India remains a priority market, even as compliance becomes more complex: “We hope to do more once the fund-flow framework becomes smoother.” AngelList India now manages $265 million AUM, has backed 800+ startups, and has returned over 25% of invested capital on its syndicate, Kohli told me.

PS: Back in the day, we had the chance to invest ₹10L in Groww. That’d be worth ₹400Cr+ today. We didn’t have the capital then - but watching Harsh (my IIT Delhi friend) & team build this juggernaut has been pure joy.
