Hot take but I think birthdays and Mother's/Father's day should be the celebrated person's choice, and if they just want to be left alone, that's perfectly valid, and expecting them to facilitate your need to celebrate with them is actually about you, not them, and selfish. For nearly two decades, I hated my birthday. I loathed it. It was a day of endless obligation. I had to arrange times for everyone to give me a gift that I often did not want, or plan my own party. If I did not facilitate this, the people that allegedly "cared" about me felt slighted, and I would need to then facilitate their emotions, which felt like punishment. Since my birthday always falls near the end of a fiscal quarter, and I own my own business, the inconvenience of trying to plan all of this while I was extremely busy got me to the point that every year, when my birthday approached, I would get literally sick to my stomach with dread. It was always different from holidays like Passover, Christmas, Thanksgiving, or Independence Day. Those holidays are celebrated by a lot of people I know, so I can split the burden of planning, or at least commiserate. But birthdays? No, it was solely my responsibility, and not doing something somehow signalled I was not grateful for the people that cared for me. So I set boundaries. I tell my friends and family I'm saving for one big thing, and they all can contribute, then say "I'm going to be at place X for dinner on date Y at time Z with a table for 8. Join me or not, thanks." And that's it. The rest of the day I close my business and do nothing. Because it's my birthday. It's about me, not you. I assume Mother's or Father's Day should be the same.

@PaulsonJonathan Going to the deli counter and asking someone else to slice up some meat you had no hand in producing yourself is not equivalent to making your own clothes.

On the one hand people shouldn’t overspend on lunch. On the other hand, it is genuinely weird to me that the norm is for everyone to prepare their own food when basically nothing else works this way. Used to be that everyone made their own clothes too.

The Simpsons TVTropes "What could have been" claims that there was a scrapped Treehouse of Horror segment from 2008 that would have parodied - of all things - Primeval. However, I can't find any sources to verify the claim. Trying to get to the bottom of this. @RickRaptor105

ToH has parodied obscure things before, so that alone doesn't dissuade me, but there's just no reason to think this is true. Why do people do this?

The more I look at it, the more I doubt it. Apart from the lack of sources, I don't know what 'licensing fees' they're talking about. ToH does paraodies all the time, and parody doesn't require licensing. Also, why would they need Henshall to do a parody?
