We were lucky to have “National Orgainic Training” out to the farm to finish their biological farming course on Monday and Tuesday. Highlight for us was seeing the slake test in action!! A slake test assesses soil health and aggregate stability by observing how dry soil clumps hold together when submerged in water. Stable, healthy, high-organic-matter soil stays intact, while degraded or conventionally tilled soil rapidly disintegrates. It indicates erosion resistance, infiltration capacity, and structural integrity. We put Dunne’s Farm No-till Soil into water and a plow,till, sow soil from over the hedge into water. We observed how our soils stayed in tact versus falling apart!(same crops just different management) Also the dogs took over the whole show including the National organic training centres mobile class room😂 Massive thank you to Sean and his team for choosing our farm as a host.
