Outstanding Hannah! So proud of you and the work you've put in to come back from injuries! Lesser people would have hung it up, but you persevered and battled back to play with a high skill set! Very deserved offer!!

Ten thoughts from the first July Live Period: Player Edition:
1. Intangibles separate you from the pack: attitude, bench presence, the way you treat the officials, encouraging your teammates when they make a mistake. Let me know if a referee has ever reversed a call based on your complaining. Coaches are watching these things as much as your skill.
2. You need to fuel your body with sufficient sleep & healthy food-fruit, protein, healthy carbs. Mountain Dew & candy will not sustain your energy. You will tire quickly and your body is not forgiving.
3. If you are not accepting of your teammates' differences, weaknesses, etc. then you should not be on a team. You should be helping not hindering. There are plenty of individual sports for you to consider.
4. If your parents have to pester you to train, practice, shoot, dribble then you need to re-evaluate why you are doing it. Your parents/guardians, etc. cannot want it more than you. If you are lacking in a skill, you need to be doing the work OUTSIDE of practice. It is not your coach's responsibility to help with shooting, ball-handling, etc. This is an individual skill that you should be working on your own.
5. If your parents are coaching you from the stands and you are listening or looking over at them you need to stop playing immediately. You need to tell your parents to stop because it will hurt your chance to progress or be recognized.
6. Do you actively listen to your coach's direction? I watch and listen to many AAU coaches repeat themselves over and over again & I watch the same kids doing the same things they shouldn't be. You are hurting yourself and your team by not listening. Again, look at where you can compete individually.
7. If you have a problem on the team, you need to talk to the coach. If your parent has a problem, they need to figure it out. You need to be able to talk to your coach and refine your communication skills because your parents will not always be able to fight your battles. Also, if it is your parent's problem, it should be a non-issue and they need to figure it out themselves. Again, if your parent is more concerned with playing time, what position you are playing, etc. then the individual sport may just be for you.
8. If you were "exhausted" after this tournament, then be forewarned because playing college ball is TOUGH (worth it-but tough). You will be up at 6am for workouts followed by classes, homework, study hall, practice & lifting. You will be praying for two games a day/6 days in a row.
9. An offer is an offer. An offer does not mean you are guaranteed a scholarship or place on the team. The majority of the time it is an expression of interest to see how you will grow, progress, and develop. It is a snapshot in time where interest is expressed-especially if you are a Freshman or Sophomore. Coaches change often in the collegiate world so your offer may go away if the coach that offers it does.
10. Only 2% of high school students are awarded scholarships, so ensure you are paying just as much attention to your studies than you are basketball.
