Kartik’s Inspiring story: Is the Government inclusive? I am writing this as a Muscular Dystrophy Brand Ambassador, advocating for change and support for individuals affected by this condition. Today, I want to share the inspiring story of Kartik Kansal, a 28-year-old scientist who, despite suffering from muscular dystrophy, has demonstrated extraordinary perseverance and intellect. Kartik, wheelchair-bound since the age of 12, has defied the odds. He taught himself to write despite weakened muscles and cracked the Civil Services Examination not once, but four times. In 2021, he secured an impressive rank of 271. His achievements continued with ranks of 813, 784, and 829 in 2019, 2022, and 2023, respectively. Yet, despite these remarkable accomplishments, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) declined to allocate any service to him. Kartik has moved the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which is expected to hear his petition in August. This situation highlights the urgent need for government action to ensure that individuals with muscular dystrophy and other disabilities are given fair opportunities and support in their professional endeavors. As a society, we must change our views and attitudes towards muscular dystrophy victims. They are not defined by their limitations but by their incredible potential and achievements. We must advocate for inclusive policies, accessible infrastructure, and a shift in societal perceptions to truly support and uplift these remarkable individuals. I call upon the government to take immediate action to address these issues and ensure that no one is denied the opportunity to serve their country due to a disability. Let us stand together to create a more inclusive and equitable society for all.
