TODAY, @pressfreedom, @CJIDAfrica, @ForumTaef, @MRA_Nigeria, @IPCng, and @IPINigeria wrote to Nigerian President @officialABAT to express alarm over Vice President @KashimSM's suggestion that no journalists have been harassed under the current administration. "This mischaracterization conveys a grave indifference to the numerous and well-documented attacks on the press while you have been president, including violent abuses and arrests by Nigerian security forces. We call for you to hold accountable those responsible for abuses against the media that have taken place during and before your tenure, and to take further action to reform Nigerian laws to ensure journalism is not criminalized. General elections are scheduled for early 2027 and your action to protect the press and Nigerian democracy is essential." Read the full letter: cpj.org/2026/04/577475/

Accountability is a debt every public office holder owes the electorate. Journalists seeking to establish accountability must be allowed a free and safe space to do so without any form of intimidation or harassment. Video source: ABN TV #PressFreedom 🧵5/5

CPJ calls on Ethiopian authorities to ensure fair, transparent trials for journalists Gobeze Sisay (left), Meskerem Abera, Genet Asmamaw, & Dawit Begashaw, who face potential death sentences or life imprisonment on terrorism charges. The four have been in detention for nearly three years for reporting on unrest in Ethiopia’s restive Amhara region. They are due to present their defenses in May, after a federal court ruled on February 4 that the prosecution had enough evidence to proceed. Read more: cpj.org/data/people/go… & cpj.org/?p=277370

CPJ is grateful to the @CECCgov for supporting Chinese journalist Dong Yuyu and calling for his unconditional release. #FreeThePress #JournalismIsNotACrime
China Commission@CECCgov

#DongYuyu has spent the last 4 years arbitrarily detained for his work as a journalist. #China jails more journalists than any other country, dangerously restricting what the world knows about China and what the Chinese people know about the world. He should be unconditionally released. #PressFreedom #JournalismIsNotACrime More details👉bit.ly/4i8f5fB
