I’ve been watching The Twilight Zone at night, and I had to share tonight’s episode: ‘He’s Alive,’ where the ghost of adolf hitler haunts a neo-nazi. It’s an exercise in prejudices that remains relevant, especially this closing monologue. He’s alive….

When I was in the 5th grade, my DARE officer told the class that the racism our parents experienced a generation before was over. James Byrd was murdered a few months later. I can never forget this. They dragged him till his head came off.
.@SankofaTravelHr

#OTD 1949, James Byrd, was born. He was dragged to death by 3 white supremacists, Shawn Berry, Lawrence Brewer and John King on June 7, 1998. Byrd said one day he was going to make Jasper, TX famous. The James Byrd Memorial Park was constructed in 1999. SAY HIS NAME!

How many cartoons can you name where a Black boy is the hero? Not a sidekick, or comic relief, but the one who gets to dream, to fall, and grow. For too many Black boys, the first time they see themselves is in headlines, obituaries, or mugshots. It’s time for something new.

Like I’m not arguing history and human rights with a maga troll who paid $99.99 for a 4 week alpha male academy taught by MagaKiin6. Like I’m just not doing it. Toni Morrison was absolutely right, it is a distraction.

James Baldwin said it in 1965 and it has not aged a single day: The reason Americans cannot face their history is that the history indicts their identity. And you cannot ask someone to accept the evidence that destroys who they think they are. White Americans, he said, need the Black American to remain inferior, because their own superiority is the only thing that makes sense of a country built on those terms. The same structure applies outward. Americans need the rest of the world to remain in need of American guidance, American intervention, American rescue. Because without that story, what exactly was all the violence for? The empire doesn't just extract resources. It extracts meaning. And the people who built their inner lives on that meaning will fight as hard to keep it as any general ever fought to keep territory. Harder, maybe. You can negotiate territory. You cannot negotiate with someone's need to believe they are one of the good ones.

“The function, the very serious function of racism is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work. It keeps you explaining, over and over again, your reason for being.” - Toni Morrison

My background is in sociology, criminology & psychology. So I want to share this book we discussed in my undergrad Perception class, for those curious about how White superiority & Black inferiority have impacted psychological theories.

This is my issue with conservatives explained in a single video: They are COMPLETELY unable to practice any kind of empathy (neither cognitive nor emotional) with any out-group. Until they have first-hand experience with an issue, they cannot fathom that it even exists

This was not that long ago. And anti-Black #racism persists in the United States and abroad. Please: 1. Stop denying racism exists. 2. Be educated on racism as an issue of prejudice, abuse of power, and manipulation of privilege. 3. Commit to being informed on systemic issues. 4. Pay attention to those who say they are being violated by systemic racism/discrimination. 5. Care. 6. Study the global and national impact of racism and white supremacy. 7. Honestly examine systems infiltrated by racist ideals [Some of those systems: Healthcare, education, criminal ‘justice’ (school to prison pipeline, prison industrial complex), housing, etc.]. 8. Study and quote Dr. MLK, Jr. to facilitate justice and true peace, NOT to maintain order as a form of false peace. Injustice is never in order. 9. Be open to understanding the “interconnectedness” of humanity. Think higher than 1 group “winning.” How can humanity win? 10. Decide on one system impacted by racism that you will work to change. Work on it. 11. Don’t be a racist. Give due spiritual, emotional, mental, and practical diligence to not being a vessel for hate, bigotry and racism. 12. Choose Nonviolence. Kingian Nonviolence not merely a tactic, but a love-centered way of living, with principles and steps that help create a more just, humane, peaceful world.
