Beautiful reflections from @smh essay finalist Eliza Hoh “I see a librarian helping a customer, or I watch a toddler stumble around with a book too big for her hands to hold, I am assured of what Sydney is capable of. The investment in public libraries brings these rich rewards.”

Vale Bill Granger OAM. Condolences to Bill's family and the wonderful teams at all Bills’ restaurants for always warmly welcoming us (as recently as this Christmas Eve!) The corn fritters have and always will be my favourite signature Bills dish.

“Some submissions opposing the plan for multi-use courts suggested "a sense of ownership when in fact the courts are public facilities .. As caretakers of these public assets, we must manage them equitably - painting a few extra lines on two tennis courts was a modest change." 🎾

Residents fight not to share tennis courts because plan will ‘attract noisy children’ smh.com.au/national/nsw/r…

Councils want crackdown on speeding cyclists putting pedestrians at risk smh.com.au/national/nsw/c… “Woollahra councillor Harriet Price said 👉shared pathways can be hazardous, but the vast majority of cyclists are not speed demons.”

Hi Andrew, that’s incorrect. I support the recommendations contained in the report to the Traffic Committee - a mix of 2P, 3P and unrestricted spaces (see pages 68 & 69). I see it as a fair and equitable approach for residents and visitors.

@PriceHarriet @ChrisMinnsMP @newscomauHQ But.... you support removing all untimed parking from Watsons Bay. That's your position. That will stop Sydney siders having a day at the beach, as all they will get under your plan, is 2 hours. You just closed Watsons Bay to wider Sydney. Residents are against that.

@roodave @PhilipThalis Yep, totally that was the recommendation to the Local Traffic Committee (which I voted for).

@PriceHarriet @PhilipThalis Surely the logically consistent position would be then to advocate changing the CC residents parking to be similar to Pad’s (rather than characterising it is as theft of public space). Though I’d advocate there should be no free street parking at all, should all be priced

@roodave @PhilipThalis Hi David Non-permit holders can park and share the off street spaces in Paddington (and all areas in NSW where a resident parking scheme is in place). It’s a balanced and equitable approach. Camp Cove arrangements are unique and don’t allow this. 🚗

@PriceHarriet @PhilipThalis And some pretty spectacular cognitive dissonance going on from a councillor who’s own ward is full of exclusionary resident’s parking

@roodave @PhilipThalis It’s not an administrative error. It is signposted: 👉“No Parking Permit Holders Excepted” There is no other area in the state that permits exclusive resident parking.

@PriceHarriet @PhilipThalis Not sure whether the balance is right is right in this specific case, but ridiculous to characterise this as some unusual, elite/ exclusionary practice. Standard across Sydney, they’ve just made an administrative error in details of applying it
