A ‘dorpie’ with soul at the foot of the Swartberg. Come experience fresh produce, open spaces, the Karoo’s champagne air, mountain trails and quirky characters.

We love this conversation/thread. And our part of the Karoo has the luxury, but also the hands-on warm hospitality of people opening their houses and cottages to new friends. Good roads too, but sometimes a little unnerving...

The Garden Route is beautiful so is driving through the Karoo. Definitely lots and lots of potential but the good roads have to come first cos they've already been paid for via Tax etc, then business owners can invest in unique local attractions. But it is definitely do able

Die Letterhuis, between Prince Albert and the beautiful Meiringspoort pass, is the most soulful place we can think of for your rest. Come for a workshop by a master calligrapher, or just breath in some peace and quiet before walking along the river to spot land art installations.

We've all learned how to be apart; your stay at Vrischgewagt celebrates the isolation and quietude, mountain silence and bird flit. Just 27kms out of town in the Prince Albert Valley. Still close enough for the to-do list, far enough for the tranquility and owl hoot.

Karoo Khaya is lovingly designed and tended; where guests are as cared for as the veggie garden. It's a special place where rabbits really do like carrots and ducklings are named Laurel and Hardy and Pete can show you one of 157 ways to start your braai fire.

Karoo Blom in Prince Albert is, well, a restaurant, a 'concept store', a place to meet and greet, and most of all, a place to sit under tolbos. Who doesn't want to do that? 📷s by @ameliavermaak5
