Heather: While it was already mentioned, I'll be attending FanFest this weekend at Bull Run as Gideon the Ninth and as a SFX contest judge. I'm excited to see you there! Independent Hill also has Sing Books with Emily on Wednesday July 22 at 10:30 a.m. I love hearing her beautiful voice when she's bringing children's books to life! #AskALibrarian

Lissette: The upcoming summer program I'm most excited for is Lake Ridge's dino scavenger hunt that we have going on right now. It runs until July 25 and we have an easy and hard version. It has been so fun looking around for all the dinos in the library! #AskALibrarian

Heather: I adore graphic novels. If you want something a bit creepy and dark, "Locke and Key" by Joe Hill is beautifully drawn and marvelously crafted. For similar reasons, I would recommend "Uzumaki" by Junji Ito, but beware! It isn't for the faint of heart! For something lighter, "Garlic and the Vampire" by Bree Paulson is absolutely delightful, warm, and magical. For manga, I love "Little Witch Academia" by Yoh Yoshinari. Gorgeously drawn, fun, and light! Another great one is "The Girl From the Other Side" by Nagabe... You can probably tell that I could go on and on! #AskALibrarian

Lissette: I haven't read a lot of graphic novels, but Lake Ridge's book club did "They Called Us Enemy" by George Takei, last year I think, and I really liked it. #AskALibrarian

Heather: It definitely isn't too late to sign up for summer reading and get a free book! Come into your local library or sign up on the Beanstack app! If you have the time, you can knock out the challenge in a day! #AskALibrarian

Lissette: It is definitely not too late to sign up for a free book! Remember that audio books and reading together as a family all count towards your 500 minutes.

Heather: Hilarious to think my TBR list has order and isn't, instead, a winding snake of sticky notes taped together. I tend to pick my next book based off what slips into my lap or attention at the time. Next contenders: “A World Without Heroes” by Brandon Mull, a fantastical YA/Juv book about two children attempting to piece together a word of power to take down an emperor, “Bat Eater and Other Names for Cora Zeng: a Novel” by Kylie Lee, a gory horror about a crime scene cleaner that works in Chinatown, or “Feral Self-Care” by Mandi Em, a nonfiction self-help that I couldn't resist picking up based on the title. #AskALibrarian

We’re halfway through Summer Reading! What’s next on your summer TBR list? #AskALibrarian

Heather: I just got my hold in for Sarah Urist Green's “You Are an Artist: Assignments to Spark Creation,” and I'm excited to start it! Curator for an art museum, Green collected prompts from a diverse range of artists in the field and challenges you to complete from your own lens of experience! I also just finished off “Healing the Modern Brain” by Ramsey and “Crying in H Mart” by Michelle Zauner. I'm also part way into one of my childhood favorite author's memoirs: “Consider This” by Chuck Palahniuk. With his traditionally off-kilter style, he discusses the "kitchen table MFA." I'll quote Goodreads as it is my favorite description of it thus far as Palahniuk's "love letter to stories and storytellers, booksellers and books themselves."
