@stepha_henson Keep going. Next time invite specific school administrators and/or social workers and guidance counselors. They are influencers in book purchasing for specific students and families. Visit a few school and read aloud in their library. 📚♥️📚♥️📚

His calloused hands remind me of the manual labor he worked to make sure I could focus on school. He transports elderly patients to their doctors' appointments. He is a warrior. Many adults reflect on childhood in school and say 'At the time I hated it because Mr/Ms X was really strict, but I really respected them because I learnt so much, I just didn't realise it at the time'. The current narrative of 'too many kids hate school' might be true - in the moment. For them. But they might hate it simply because they are being asked to do things they don't want to do. And their views might change as they mature. Sometimes in life, you have to do things you don't like/want to do/enjoy!

@branbrotherton Getting to know students - names/academics/faces - strategies are critical. Who has a strategy or practice to share?

This was one of the most powerful activities we have ever done as a staff. We say we know our kids BUT do we really KNOW our kids? Here, we identified every student in our school that we know: -By name only -By name and face -Something about them -Their academic status -Personal Story Transparent moment…there were kids with NO or FEW checks including from ME!! How is this possible? Our kids LOVE us and we don’t even know them by name!! This canNOT happen…we have to be intentional with knowing ALL of our kids, not just MOST. Just reflect on the power that we hold as educators that our kids love us without parameters, without us even knowing their name. We challenged each other to change this narrative TOMORROW! Intentionality is KEY💯. It’s a magical thing when purpose and passion collide. How you do one thing is how you do everything. #AliefProud #BuildingLeaders #BuildYourCulture #LiveYourCulture
