Another update: we just spent ten hours in A&E. Had to return to hospital because when they gave my wife blood-thinning injections they didn't ask whether she had suffered a head injury in the last twenty-four hours, which can cause brain bleeds. She had hit her head earlier in the day on the broken toilet door in the first hospital. She came home and collapsed on the floor. Had to stay in the recovery position, and suffered dizziness and a headache. Seen by an African male nurse, who shouted at her during the triage, saying she was taking too long to explain what had happened. I told him to stop shouting, calmly, because she couldn't get her words out. He said "You don't talk to me like that, you do that again and I'll make you wait outside" — then changed his tone and as we were walking out the door said "I wasn't shouting at you, if it seemed like I was." Zero compassion. Unreasonable. Didn't understand the situation. Then had to take her temperature again because he did it wrong the first time. Atrocious. Sat overnight in the waiting room, told there were only seven people in the queue, but only two doctors on staff. By the time we were seen, the consultant said there's no point scanning her because she's been in hospital for so long without severe symptoms that she's probably fine. Would have taken them ten minutes to check and send us home, but they had us wait all night in uncomfortable chairs, without food, and the only updates being intermittent blood pressure checks. She has to come back again tomorrow for a DVT scan for the clot in her leg. The most absurd part: they were playing The Impossible (2012) in the waiting room, and we walked in just at the bit the mum thinks she's dying in hospital. Cheerful!

If it were not for social media, the BBC would have ignored what happened in Ceuta last week.
