Eunwoo applied to join the Ministry of National Defense (MND) Military Band—and this isn’t just any military band. His decision was incredibly smart and thoughtful. There are about 40 military bands in the Korean Army, divided into A, B, and C levels. Among these, the A and B-level bands require a special audition process. The MND Band is Korea’s most prestigious and symbolic ceremonial military unit, alongside the MND Honor Guard. It’s even considered a step above the regular A-level units—often referred to as “Special A-Level.” This band performs at the country’s most important national events, including National Foundation Day ceremonies, Blue House honor ceremonies, memorial services at the National Cemetery, official welcoming events for foreign leaders, and even Olympic opening ceremonies. Because of the prestige and visibility of the unit, competition is extremely intense, and only the most skilled applicants are accepted. The application deadline was in late March, which means EUNWOO must have been preparing quietly for some time. Considering how packed his schedule has been, it’s truly impressive that he found the time and focus to prepare for the audition. Born in 1997, this year marked his final opportunity to apply for a military band—had he not done it now, the chance would’ve been gone. If he enlists as planned in July, the timing will help minimize his career gap. While he’s serving, the drama and movie he is currently filming will be released. And from a fan’s point of view, one of the best parts is that the MND Band performs regularly, meaning we’ll still get to see him during his service. EUNWOO has always wanted to stay connected to his fans, and we truly believe he chose this path to make the wait a little easier for us. Unlike regular military units, the MND Band doesn’t involve harsh training during working hours. Instead, most of their time is spent rehearsing and performing. Many male celebrities experience a drop in appearance due to difficult conditions during service, but that’s far less of a concern in this setting. It will also be a valuable opportunity for him to grow musically. With daily practice and frequent performances, he’ll be surrounded by trained and experienced music majors, giving him the chance to build meaningful artistic connections. And since the unit is based in Seoul, he’ll be able to rest comfortably with his family during leave and stay in touch with the industry more easily. Just to clarify, this is not the same band his friends have joined— CHA EUNWOO applied to a higher-level unit directly under the Ministry of National Defense.
