@NearestCommit Maybe its just cause C++ is my first language, so I was cooked from the start, but I like the cout syntax a lot. Makes it easy to inject variables into the output. I struggle more with how its done in other languages now.

@straceX Very close, but you're forgetting the size of individual elements. If you have an array of ints, each is 4 bytes long. So the actual calculation is (index * element size) + base, which is the same as base + (index * element size). Same result, but small details are important.

Here is the trick: Addition is commutative. since x + y is the exact same as y + x, then *(myArray + 2) is the exact same math as *(2 + myArray). because of this, the compiler treats 2[myArray] as completely valid C code. You can even write 3["Hello"] to print the letter 'l'. absolute C/C++ chaos.

every developer is taught that to access an array, you write array[index]. but in C and C++, you can just... flip it. this code compiles perfectly and runs without a single warning. how the hell does 2[myArray] work?👇
