Just received a statement from Kyle Busch's family on the cause of his death: "The medical evaluation provided to the Busch Family concluded that severe pneumonia progressed into sepsis, resulting in rapid and overwhelming associated complications. "The Family asks for continued understanding and privacy during this difficult time."

Giants are still discussing what to do with roster, with Jung Hoo Lee being a candidate to hit the IL. He went through a workout this afternoon to test his back. That would make Victor Bericoto active, although he’s not in lineup today. Casey Schmitt will be in left field.

What I would do if I were Buster Posey: 1. Play Schmitt at a corner OF until the deadline w/ Eldridge at DH. Then trade Arraez, Schmitt becomes everyday 2B. 2. When Webb returns, move Houser to the pen and McDonald stays in the rotation. 3. Call up Blade Tidwell and Dylan Smith for Borucki and Brubaker. The lack of swing-and-miss does not belong in an MLB bullpen. 4. Cut the three catcher system, a massive constraint on an already-rigid roster. If you’re going to trade Bailey and parade Susac/Rodriguez as your catching tandem of the future, then stick with those two guys. But using Haase as the backup C with Rodriguez as a pinch-hitter/OF/occasional C does not work.

POSEY: “You’re trying to get the 21-year-old in the best spot you can… we’ll have to just evaluate as each day goes on. @MarkusBoucher: Would it be more beneficial to get every day at bats in Sacramento? POSEY: “I think that’s something we’re going to evaluate day to day.”

Tyler Mahle has a 6.10 ERA (worst in the league) I don’t need to see him throw another pitch in a Giants uniform. When you go dumpster diving you end up with trash. Shame on everyone involved in signing him. He’s never been good.

He's also an older player, and the Giants have kind of tipped their hand on how much interest they have in him with how much time he saw with the big league club this spring, so he'll probably be in Sacramento before long

Vitello’s comment about Ryne Nelson being tougher on lefties, thus Eldridge sitting, is ridiculous. The truth? Nelson gets significantly more swing-and-miss vs. RHH, but mitigates damage better vs. LHH w/ his cutter and curveball. He ends up pretty even to both hands. What really frustrates me is that Bryce Eldridge has the perfect skill set to match Nelson’s arsenal. Let Eldridge rake against the guy with a 19% K rate vs. LHH, who is trying to get away by inducing weak contact. Eldridge has the power to neutralize exactly what Nelson is trying to do. No offense to them, but Will Brennan and Drew Gilbert lack the impact, and the ability to do damage, to take advantage of an arm that relies on weak contact.

I think Tony Vitello and the Giants brass “part ways” at the end of the year and he returns to Tennessee. This thing isn’t his fault, but I seriously wonder what is going through his head. He had the best job in the world and came to be a scapegoat for this dumpster fire.
