I maybe be stupid…. But I never understood why we don’t use the fullscreen for film on widescreen TVs. The black bars made sense when it was widescreen on a 4:3 screen. Why is all that space unused for home releases? Minus the few 4Ks that include imax switching.

Is the Blender version used here HIP-optimized? AMD AI Max 395's 8060s is way more powerful than the M5 GPU, yet it's still slow. Seems to show results similar to the Blender 4.5 benchmark?

@lafaiel That’s a 5090 laptop which is significantly less impressive than an actual 5090 and I will say very impressive but how expressive is an m5 max? Assuming that’s the 48gb at the very least it’s pushing 4k probably

@VadimYuryev @richdev1ne 5090 is well over a year old now and the M4 ultra was supposed to be beating the 5090 but it never came out. M5 Ultra is still a pipe dream right now. Apple make awesome CPUs but the GPU power is usually 2 generations behind Nvidia on desktops.

And when you really spec up a Pro level Mac with the same sort of memory (which you probably would, right) then you're not going to be a million miles away on price. Mac Pro starts at £7200 where I am right now on the old M2 Ultra. A Pro 6000 is currently about 9 grand. A 76 core GPU M2 Ultra Mac Pro with 128GB is also 9 grand 🤷‍♂️
