He's super tall, so his strides are incredibly long. Half court has the ball and is dribbling, gather step picking up the ball from his dribble with left foot just crossing the 3 point line,

It's part of the maturation process and Wemby now has to overcome this scheme of using shorter, quicker, stockier defenders to push him out of the paint and have a second and third defender pick at the ball, but there's no reason to believe he won't.

Every great player that is not complete struggles as the best coaches in the world using the best defenders and athletes to stop them and they have to overcome these schemes and improve on their weaknesses.

So simply because Steph is the better player on offense doesn't mean Wemby is terrible on offense. Wemby is still filling out his body and the league saw this season they needed to orient their entire game plan around stopping him or he would wreck them.

Wemby isn't Steph. Steph and Nash are the two greatest shooters ever followed by Bird and possibly Allen, in that order. Steph doesn't have as many bad games as Wemby has had this season and he attracts similar attention. But this is one of the greatest players ever.

None of the players being considered for MVP have anything close to Wemby's effect on defense. The difference between Wemby and these players on defense is greater than the difference between them on offense. And that's now. He just turned 22 in January.

On defense, he has gravity. It's not just that he alters and blocks shots. It's that teams take significantly fewer shots in the paint and far more mid-range shots. So they take many more inefficient shots and it's simply hard to win that way.

He can see over the defense when he is doubled. He can shoot over the top of anybody, especially the shorter, stockier players. The taller players cannot guard him on the perimeter. His vision isn't obstructed.

Wemby isn't a finished product. When we see great games, we know he doesn't have that game every night. However, it points to what's coming in the future. As he fills out and as his teammates are better shooters, current strategies will be even less effective.

It doesn't mean Wemby isn't elite on offense or defense. Wemby has had 5 to 8 bad games on offense, but even so those bad games are because the other team's coach schemed for him and that made it easier for Wemby's teammates.

Zion Williamson is one of the 4 or 5 best athletes in the NBA and explosive and has talent. So some of the time he will get the better of Wemby. But that's because of Zion's skills and athleticism. A great player getting the best of Wemby just shows how great that player is.

If Draymond could have guarded Wemby 1 on 1 in isolation without help and without fouling for all or most of the game he would have because he would have wanted to slow Wemby down and reduce his impact. Wemby has options. He can do things Draymond can't guard.

Those numbers were very good. Draymond Green didn't guard him 1 on 1 without help and without fouling the entire time he guarded Wemby. Wemby has a bag. Draymond would end up in foul trouble.

Draymond Green is an all time great defender. He can make it harder for Wemby to score because he's Draymond Green. But he's not a Wemby-stopper. And Coach Kerr knows this. Let st Wemby's numbers over all against the Warriors.

If he has good enough shooters surrounding him on his team, then you pay for that. He can still shoot right over the top. It's hard to double at the top of the key. He is adding good weight over time.

The only scheme to guard him is to put a shorter, stockier, faster and stronger defender on him and have that defender push him out of the paint and he and his teammates pick at the ball. But that doesn't solve the problems Wemby creates.

He has a great handle for his size. He has great shooting mechanics. He started the season 8 for 40 from 3. He's now at 37% from 3 for the season and we're 5/8 of the season in. He can score from all 3 levels.
