Effective Tax Rate (ETR) for MNEs – Clarifying the €750m Threshold A recent review of the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Nigeria Tax Act (NTA) revealed an interesting inconsistency regarding the revenue threshold for companies that are part of a Multinational Enterprise (MNE) group. The CTC referenced a group turnover of at least £750 million (British Pounds Sterling), which deviates from both: - The earlier version of the NTA, and - Established global practice, which adopts a €750 million (Euros) threshold (aligned with OECD standards). This discrepancy appears to be one of the editorial oversights identified in the CTC. Encouragingly, the Rev360 platform has aligned with global standards by reflecting the threshold in Euros (€750m). This position is further supported by guidance from the Presidential Fiscal and Tax Reform Committee during their training session. Key takeaway: It is now reasonable to proceed on the basis of a €750 million (Euros) group turnover threshold for determining applicability in the context of Effective Tax Rate (ETR) rules for MNEs in Nigeria. We expect this clarification to be formally reflected in the revised version of the law to eliminate any ambiguity. Consistency with global standards is critical- not just for compliance, but for investor confidence and ease of administration. #Tax #MNE #EffectiveTaxRate #NigeriaTax #OECD #TaxReform #Rev360

WHT Remittance Update on Rev360 – Key Changes to Note With the introduction of the Rev360 tax administration platform, there are some important updates to the process of remitting Withholding Tax (WHT) that taxpayers and practitioners should be aware of: 1. Change in Identification Requirement WHT remittance is no longer based solely on TIN. You can now use Tax ID, RC Number, or NIN when processing remittances on the platform. 2. Automatic Application of WHT Rates Users are no longer required to manually input WHT rates. Once the transaction type is selected, the system automatically applies the appropriate rate. 3. Additional Classification Requirements To ensure accurate tax computation, users are now required to provide: • The residency status of the supplier/vendor (Resident or Non-Resident) • The recipient type (Corporate or Non-Corporate) These enhancements are designed to improve accuracy and reduce errors in WHT deductions by ensuring that the correct rate is applied based on the information provided. Rev360 is currently being rolled out starting with Small and Emerging Taxpayers. It will be interesting to see how this phase goes and what improvements may follow as adoption expands.

For those who scaled through to the EY Competency Based Interview (CBI), take note of the following. 1. It’s like an interview where your performance determines if you will proceed to the next stage. 2. You would be asked to “talk about yourself”. Ensure you practice what to say; include experiences during service, school, extracurricular activities, projects or seminars attended, and why they guided you to pick the service line you selected. 3. You can be asked questions on your CV, so be ready to explain and defend anything you included there. 4. If you choose tax, have an overview of the new tax laws and Rev360 that NRS (formerly FIRS) just introduced. It shows you’re up to date. 5. Know EY core values. 6. Talk about yourself. 7. Be calm and not pressurized; the interviewers are human and considerate. Don’t overthink. 8. Ensure you have a good connection and dress well. 9. Join at least 5 minutes before the scheduled time. 10. Ensure your device can connect successfully to Microsoft Teams; do the checks beforehand. You will most likely need to turn on your video, so be ready. 11. If you don’t know the unit or service line you chose, once the interview link is sent, check your interviewers’ names on LinkedIn to know their units. The interviewers are always HR and people from the unit you picked, so their units indicate the one you selected. 12. Have an idea about the unit you selected. 13. Be free and happy. 14. Different interviewers, different patterns.

There have been rumours that EY has reached out to those who completed the assessment for the next stage of the graduate training recruitment process. This is not true, as EY reached out to those who applied for EY Tech, not GT. For those who applied for GT, just stay glued.

Nollywood is another reason why Lagos is overpopulated. What do you mean that if you come to Lagos, you would automatically get a job and become wealthy, even with no idea or formal education? Life is not a bed of roses in Lagos o.

PwC Graduate Recruitment Tip 🚨 The first stage is a speed test: 10 questions in 10 minutes. It’s highly technical and very competitive, only top scores move to the next stage (SHL), with past cut-offs around 80%+. Prepare for speed and accuracy. Don’t get stuck on one question, manage your time well. Start prepping for SHL early, it’s often the toughest stage. Physical interviews follow afterwards. If you got the mail, this is your cue to go all in. 💯

For those writing EY assessments today. It is section-based with a 15-minute timer per section. The sections are: - Critical Reasoning - Numeracy - Literacy - Soft Skills This means you finish each section one after the other. You start each section yourself. Ensure your performance in one section does not negatively affect the others. Once the 15 minutes is up for a section, it will automatically submit, and you will proceed to the next section. Good luck! 🤞

KPMG really needs to change their assessment test administrator. The same issues can't keep happening every year with no improvement. You can't keep rescheduling every time and deny applicants a seamless experience during the assessment.
