We’re delighted to announce that three shortlisted nominees for this year’s Alliance Awards come from Coventry University Group! The Alliance Awards, hosted by @UniAlliance, are an annual celebration of individuals or teams who have made a significant contribution to their university and local or global communities, going above and beyond to deliver substantial real-world impact. The three nominees and their respective categories are: ◼️ Solar cookers in Rwanda - Global Impact category The Solar Energy Transitions project, led by Dr Jonathan Nixon and Dr Alison Halford from our Research Centre for Computational Science and Mathematical Modelling, involved installing solar electronic cookers in 20 households in East Kayonza to reduce reliance on firewood and charcoal stoves, which harm health and the environment. Results showed a reduction in firewood consumption from 3.4kg to 0.86kg per day and a 70% improvement in kitchen air quality, contributing to healthier living environments and saving time. He is among the most innovative problem-solving curriculum leaders in the country and has led several wholesale curriculum redesigns across all educational entities within Coventry University Group. ◼️ Hope 4 The Community - Local Impact category @HOPE4TC (H4C) supports those with long-term health conditions through evidence-based self-management programmes. Originating from our Research Centre for Intelligent Healthcare, H4C combines positive psychology, mindfulness, and cognitive behavioural therapy to enhance participants' quality of life. Their programmes, including the Hope Programme, have reached over 30,000 people. Read more here: pulse.ly/2basbebpid @CovUniResearch #CovResearch

I’m struck that ‘putting patients at the centre of care’ (horrible/useless phrase) often means delivering a kind of benign paternalism to grateful recipients- a long way from co-creating health. Reckon those of us who care about this need to be clearer about the difference.

“Investment in personalised prevention cannot come at the expense of action on the wider determinants of health. New approaches to personalised prevention are just one part of the broader action required to deliver the government’s ambition to improve health and narrow inequalities.”
The Health Foundation@HealthFdn

What is personalised prevention, and can it improve health? Analysis highlights 5 assumptions underlying government ambitions on personalised prevention over the past decade and finds big gaps between policy rhetoric and practical reality. Read more 👇 health.org.uk/publications/l…

@alf_collins @ChrisGrahamUK @PSCommissioner @rachelpower222 Hi Alf our latest didgital self-management paper shares your views. "Lack of attention to unintended harm linked to the lack of diversity in self-management research, highlights the need for an expanded ethical framework informed by disability justice scholarship"

@ChrisGrahamUK I’ve been impressed by some of the ‘epistemic injustice’ (surely there is a better description- feels very academic) work that @PSCommissioner and @rachelpower222 have drawn my attention to. Feels relevant and important though again we need to simplify the language.
