Today we officially launched the Ethio-Djibouti Bulk Cargo Container (BCC) — a game-changing solution to tackle shipping liner container shortages for bulk cargo exports and imports. This marks another major milestone in the Ethio-Djibouti cargo container shipment journey, especially during these challenging times of fuel shortages and price surges. A huge thank you to the Ethiopian and Djibouti customs authorities for making this happen in such a timely manner. At EDR , we keep trade moving. 🇪🇹🤝🇩🇯

Electric vehicles are now common in Ethiopia. But, have you ever seen any electric trucks in Ethiopia? 50 electric heavy-duty trucks have been delivered at the construction site of the Bishoftu International Airport, to promote green development, esp during the fuel crisis.

#Update: The Djibouti–Ethiopia trade corridor, the primary gateway for as much as 90 percent of Ethiopia’s commerce, carries an estimated $30 billion to $40 billion in goods each year, underscoring its central role in the region’s economy. Within that network, the electrified railway linking Addis Ababa to the Port of Djibouti handles a smaller but growing share — roughly 15 percent — moving goods valued at about $3 billion to $6 billion annually. That translates to approximately $250 million to $500 million a month, or $8 million to $16 million each day, based on current freight volumes. While trucking still dominates the corridor, analysts say the railway’s contribution is expected to rise significantly as capacity expands, potentially reshaping the flow of trade across the Horn of Africa.

Accra, Ghana, 28 April 2026 I was pleased to participate in the Tana High-Level Security Forum Board Meeting held in Accra, Ghana under the leadership of Board Chair H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana. During the meeting, the Board reached important decisions aimed at advancing the growth of the Tana Forum. As Africa’s leading continental platform, the Forum has played a pivotal role in shaping discussions on peace and security across the continent. Representing the host country, I reaffirmed Ethiopia’s strong commitment to strengthening the Forum’s effectiveness and long-term sustainability through deeper institutional development.

Today in Hawassa, Sidama Region, we proudly inaugurate the Toyo Phase 2, Origin, and Lumintech solar factories, alongside the HZ Gas plant at Hawassa Industrial Park. Together, the solar facilities will generate 11.3 gigawatts of clean energy annually, while HZ Gas will supply 900 tons of oxygen, 40,000 tons of nitrogen, and 7 tons of hydrogen each year. These four projects have created numerous jobs, expanding opportunity and powering livelihoods. Their production capacity is immense, but so is Ethiopia’s potential! #EthiopiaDelivers

I was pleased to sign the renewed Host Country Agreement with the Institute for Security Studies (ISS), represented by its Executive Director, Fonteh Akum, today. This renewal strengthens our valued partnership and supports the advancement of evidence-based research and inclusive dialogue on Africa’s peace and security priorities, firmly grounded in the principle of African solutions to African challenges.
