Dr. Ibrahim Ida as the Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and nominated seven individuals as Federal Commissioners to the National Population Commission (NPC). The nominated Federal Commissioners and their respective states are: 1. Kolawole Oladipupo Alabi – Ekiti State 2. Nasiru Mu’azu – Zamfara State 3. Usman Abubakar Tuggar – Bauchi State 4. Dr. Isaka Alada Yahaya – Kwara State 5. Prof. Sadiq Isah Radda – Katsina State 6. Suleiman Umar – Jigawa State 7. Hon. Chiso Abdullahi Dattijo – Sokoto State

The biggest conundrum for the opposition is where their candidate will come from. If they go with a Southerner, it will be difficult to convince the North to accept a plausible eight-year extension of power in the South, when, by political calculation, power could return to the North in 2031. If they present a Northerner, primordial instincts will naturally surface. Even those who are not particularly aligned with Bola Ahmed Tinubu may still rally behind him. Besides, Atiku Abubakar’s ambition has never quite translated into a collective Northern project. More importantly, Northern politicians with genuine presidential aspirations may prefer to wait for a clearer and uncontested opening in 2031. No matter how you permute it, it doesn’t look like a smooth path for the opposition.
