@ipkehoe Brilliant article, Ian. The Collision Brothers are models to emulate. Their notion of stewardship is excellent. So much better than the flawed obsession with shareholder value, leading to constantly changing CEOs and flipflopping strategy in publicly listed companies.

@OrlaFeely @ucddublin Thank you @OrlaFeely. Your post brought back a lovely memory of being lectured by Carmel Humphries when I was in First Science. If my memory serves me correctly, she was always accompanied by her technician Albert

💙💛 𝗨𝗖𝗗 𝘂𝗽 𝟰𝟱 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝟭𝟮𝟲 𝗴𝗹𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗤𝗦 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 🔹 UCD ranked No. 1 in Ireland for Sustainability and Employment Outcomes The latest QS World University Rankings has seen University College Dublin rise 45 places to be ranked 126 in the world. The sharp increase in 2025 marks UCD's second consecutive upward movement in these rankings. 🗣️ UCD President Professor Orla Feely: “UCD’s greatly improved position in the ranking reflects the dedication and the achievements of our faculty, researchers and staff." “It is very heartening to see that our score has increased in eight of the nine components of the ranking, showing the breadth as well as the depth of our achievements.” “The exception is our faculty-student ratio, which continues to remain low compared to our international counterparts. This points to the recurrent underfunding of the Irish university sector - something that must be addressed if we want to have a globally competitive education and research ecosystem in Ireland which produces the best graduates,” she added. The nine indicators used by the QS World University Rankings to measure performance are International Faculty, Sustainability, Employment Outcomes, International Research Network, International Students, Academic Reputation, Citations per Faculty, Employer Reputation, and Faculty Student Ratio. UCD was ranked number one in Ireland and 50th in the world for Sustainability, and number one in Ireland and 77th in the world for Employment Outcomes. QS measures employment outcomes as a reflection on the ability of institutions to ensure a high level of employability for their graduates, while also nurturing future leaders who go on to make an impact in their respective fields. For Sustainability, it evaluates the social and environmental impact of universities as centres of education and research. For the 2025 edition, the most improved indicators for UCD over the previous year were Sustainability, up 154 places, International Research Network, up 97 places, and International Students, which rose by 97. The University also rose 56 places in Citations per Faculty, its highest score in this indicator since 2018. Academic Reputation is the most heavily weighted individual metric, at 30% in the QS WUR, and here, UCD moved up four places. For its latest World University Rankings edition, QS evaluated some 5,663 institutions and ranked 1,503 globally. There were no changes to the methodology or weightings used between the 2024 and 2025 rankings.

👩‍💼🎊 Professor Niamh Brennan recognised as ‘influential leader’ inspiring positive change in business The world’s largest business education alliance has named Professor Niamh Brennan as one of its influential leaders inspiring positive change in the business world. AACSB International (AACSB) - which accredits over a thousand business schools worldwide – recognised the UCD academic as a part of its 2024 Class of Influential Leaders. This honorific celebrates those who exemplify the important role of faculty in developing knowledge that provides timely and relevant solutions for business and societal challenges. Professor Brennan, who is currently the Michael MacCormac Professor of Management at UCD College of Business and the founder and academic director of the UCD Center for Corporate Governance, was one of 22 business school faculty globally to be recognised by the annual initiative. “Professor Brennan’s work demonstrates the potential of business school research to address some of today’s most critical challenges,” said Lily Bi, AACSB president and CEO. “The knowledge Professor Brennan is producing will help inform and create real change in the world.” With over 100 publications to her name, Professor Brennan was recognised by Stanford University as one of the world's top 2% of scientists for 2022. She was elected to the Royal Irish Academy, Ireland's highest academic honour, and has received a British Accounting and Finance Association Distinguished Academic Award and a fellowship of the Irish Academy of Management. In addition, she was appointed an inaugural fellow of the Institute of Directors in Ireland and an honorary fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland. Her research interests are in financial reporting and corporate governance, and Professor Brennan was the first in Ireland to offer education and training to company directors. Following the controversy surrounding hidden payments at RTÉ, Ireland's national broadcaster, in 2023, the Minister for the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media appointed Professor Brennan to chair an expert advisory committee examining governance and cultural failures at the public service broadcaster. AACSB’s Influential Leaders program recognises notable alumni and faculty from its accredited business schools whose work inspires positive change in the business world and society at large. It aims to highlight the value that business schools bring to business and society - whether through alumni who have used their business education to improve the industries and communities they serve, or the faculty leading positive impact through their research.
