We are grateful for the opportunity to write a reflection on our 2011 privacy paper which won @MISQuarterly Impact Award. The field has changed radically. Despite many things we "got right" in 2011, we explore what we could have done better in this reflection.

Human collaborators often share common sense background and communicate with a high degree of ambiguity. But AI systems operate with mathematical precision. Such fundamental incompatibility of "specification" can lead to misalignments and misunderstandings.

How to conceptualize blockchain from a privacy perspective: is it a privacy-enhancing or a privacy-intruding tool? Blockchain does not seem to neatly fit into any of these buckets. This paper tackles the role of blockchain technologies in the contemporary data privacy landscape.
