This is what's getting lost in the debate over the rent control ballot question. We're not dealing with a state legislature that is actively working to address the housing crisis. We're trying to get one of the most opaque, unaccountable state governments to care about the crisis

If rent control passes the legislature could, & I know this is a crazy thing to say in MA, DO SOMETHING. They could amend, limit, or repeal the bill but they’d be forced to make a clear choice between doing something or doing nothing and it’s 100% ON THEM.

The reason why I’m voting yes for the Massachusetts rent control ballot question, despite some reservations about its scope and mechanics, is because the Mass. legislature will read a defeat of the question as license to continue doing nothing substantive about the housing crisis
