@fridgebuzz_art @zachlieberman It looks like it was during the 60s. Well, actually after I wrote my first post I became aware of my own bias because "generative" goes far beyond "computational".

@ProfessorJun_ @zachlieberman I remember 20 years ago we called it “procedural art”. I don’t know when “generative” replaced “procedural”. Or maybe it was always used and I just didn’t hear it.

is generative art the best term to use? I've always been a tad bit anxious that generative art assumes a certain mode of working and that generative is a nebulous term we would need to define repeatedly. seeing generative AI take off, it feel like the term is less useful
