We're shortly off for the Christmas break. Before we go, we wanted to share a celebration and reflection from Amy, a brilliant campaigner with our friends at @mssocietyuk and one of our expert by experience board. We'll keep working for a #SafeSickPay system for all.

Ross Barrett, our Policy Manager says:   For those with MS - a debilitating, unpredictable condition – access to flexible working, reasonable adjustments and SSP can be the difference between staying in work and being forced out of employment altogether. mssoc.uk/44yaiP3

What fantastic news in the run-up to Christmas! The sick pay improvements in the employment bill come a step closer to reality for millions of workers. The next step is Royal Assent - a massive moment to celebrate - well done to the many people working to make this happen! 👏

I am delighted the Lords have passed the Employment Rights Bill - a historic moment that will make working life fairer, more secure and better for millions of people across the UK.

Dan is on the Safe Sick Pay workers advisory group, and along with our broader coalition, is calling for a #SafeSickPay system that enables workers to recover from illness and return to work safely rather than be forced back to work ill because they can't afford time off.

Dan Berry, one of the brilliant workers campaigning with us on sick pay, made a heartfelt plea today in the @DailyMirror to Peers debating sick pay measures in the Employment Rights Bill. Day one sick pay will bring welcome relief to so many workers; let's get on with the job.

With a winter #flu wave, we're once again reminded of why sick workers should be supported to stay home and recover. Masks can only do so much. Unpaid sick pay forces many back to work too early. This hurts workers and employers alike. Our comment in the Metro 👇

A sick leave fact we probably haven't shared yet... Slightly concerning to read, though, that some medieval peasants reportedly had longer and better sick pay terms than some workers today! Thank you @durham_uni for uncovering this interesting historical fact.

Interesting reflections here from Professor Neil Greenberg @somceo on the Mayfield Review: "The Dutch system... requires employers to provide sick pay and occupational health input for up to two years, has achieved far higher return-to-work rates #SafeSickPay
