Vermont Libertarian Party
On this day one quarter of a millennia ago we told a King we'd had enough, and we weren't listening to him or his whimsical rules any more. And we constructed a new government, premised not on Kings, not on nobility, but on the ideal and the promise that all people have equal rights. It has not been easy. The path we've taken to get where we are today has had many pitfalls and perils - and we've yet to live up to that powerful promise we once made. The principle of the equality of rights has always suffered in the face of the harsh truth of reality - that power and tyranny do not bend to justice without a fight. But we have persevered. Each of our generations has had its own fight to pass down to us the torch of liberty our great American experiment represents. And each generation has, thus far, won their fight, endured their trials, and passed down the enduring legacy of liberty time after time. Happy birthday, America! May the torch of freedom always shine from your highest mountain tops!
