The phrase ‘Mothers always get custody’ is common, but this is a misconception and is far from the truth. Project Lighthouse supports mothers who have endured domestic abuse and child-removal, because we understand that children do not always stay in the care of their mothers. These removals often happen on the grounds of so-called ‘Parental Alienation’, a theory used by perpetrators to continue their post-separation abuse.
