From UNIBEN to Cornell: MT Scholar Promise Ekpo Advancing AI and Empowering Women in Tech Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a complex concept that frequently features in today’s conversations. For 2020 MT Scholar, Promise Ekpo, however, AI is far from theoretical. It is a powerful tool for solving real-world problems and improving critical systems. Recently, Promise helped facilitate a collaboration between Rewriting the Code (RTC) and the Women in Tech community at Cornell University. RTC is a free community that supports women navigating the technology industry by providing mentorship, professional development opportunities, and a network of peers with shared ambitions. The event brought together graduate students, industry recruiters, and technology leaders for a panel discussion and networking session focused on career pathways in technology. Representatives from organizations such as Distyl AI, Khosla Ventures, and Millennium Management participated, offering valuable insights into industry opportunities and recruitment pathways. The gathering was designed to create an environment where women in technology could connect, ask questions, and access mentorship and career resources that support their professional growth. Promise is a First-Class graduate in Computer Engineering from the University of Benin, where she graduated with an outstanding CGPA of 4.75/5.00. She is currently pursuing her PhD at Cornell University, focusing on Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning (MARL), a branch of AI that studies how multiple intelligent systems collaborate to make decisions in complex environments. She also serves as a Graduate Research Assistant at AirLAB within Cornell’s Computer Science department. Beyond her research, Promise remains committed to strengthening the broader technology ecosystem, particularly by supporting women entering the field. #MTScholarships #GradSchool #AI #IntelligentSystems #ComputerEngineering
