You tried to mock Trump for treating Africa like a monolith, but this sarcasm completely backfired. Comparing the practical goal of an African economic bloc to the militarised partition of Korea or the historical warfare between Japan and China does not make you look culturally nuanced. It just makes you sound like a spokesperson for tribalism. We get what you were trying to do, but leaning this hard into extreme geopolitical rivalries just to score a cheap dunk gives direct ammunition to the exact people who think the continent is too fractured to ever integrate. You ended up arguing against your own interests just to win a point on the timeline.
