An article in El Pais yesterday stated "Es un engaño" , situating bilingual education in Spain as a hoax and a hurdle for immigrants. There is a need address the superficiality of the Spanish curriculum, and realize there are more languages than English. Immigrants are bilingual!

My children are, menos mal!, in a bilingual school while in Spain for a sabbatical. My son's teacher describes his Spanish as not being "su lengua materna" (his mother tongue). This is knowing that I am a native Spanish speaker and intended as a compliment💫

In one of the most segregated school systems in the country, New York City, and engaging in meaningful conversations as the Hispanic Education Summit begins. Getting children to be accepted to the schools is not enough. We need to invest on children throughout their education
