2¹³⁶²⁷⁹⁸⁴¹−1, discovered today, is the largest known prime. It's a Mersenne prime (2ᵖ-1), which are easier to find. It took nearly 6 years for the GIMPS software to find it after the previous largest known prime. It was also the first Mersenne prime found using GPUs.

@adamwathan I like that [] syntax indicates stepping outside the regular system. How about px-[47]?

Should we fill in the gaps in our spacing scale?

Starting to wonder if the gaps in our spacing scale — while noble in their goal — are more annoying than they're worth… Should we just make stuff like `px-47` work in Tailwind CSS v4? 📊 Poll in the reply…

@simonw Maybe this is also a strength of LLMs: Taking general knowledge and just tuning it slightly to a particular context.

@simonw Side-by-side comparison of its response for you and for me. Almost identical. It adapts the details to each of us, but the response content and format is eerily similar. A vague relatable statement, slightly tailored, comes across as surprisingly convincing.

Here's a blog post about how that ChatGPT trick where you ask it to provide insights into your personality is _mostly_ snake oil, relying on the same cognitive bias (the Barnum effect) used by horoscopes and personality tests simonwillison.net/2024/Oct/15/ch…
Simon Willison@simonw

There's a meme where you ask ChatGPT "From all of our interactions what is one thing that you can tell me about myself that I may not know about myself" - don't be fooled into thinking there's anything deep going on here, its effectively a horoscope generator

Collaboration tools are one of the things where technologists like myself think we understand the problem-space; We really do not, at all.

It has been a while that I have posted about the calculator here. The more I work on it, the more problems I find to fix

there should be a method like .filter but it's .separate() or something where it filters according to the condition but returns both the filtered and non-filtered elements

@adamwathan I... really thought you had to use position: relative for this

Once you understand the CSS `isolation` property, you'll basically never wrestle with `z-index` issues again. Quick one that will fix 99% of your problems — throw `isolate` on your main layout container, so any portaled elements are guaranteed to be in another stacking context.

@adamwathan An employee only has one job (generally), but an employer has many employees. I feel like that might explain some of the imbalance in the dynamic.

@ddmeyer Watching the "help me solve this equation" portion of the announcement was quite a ride. It's cool tech. But "help me solve a math problem" is very much not the correct demo.

@realbashlk I have absolutely no idea why it would associate this with my website specifically. The only thing I can think of is that one time I wrote a semi-popular blog post about iframes. And the source code for my website is on Github. But that's it. dev.to/pulljosh/how-t…

Hi @PullJosh I was writing some code to remove iframes from my RSS feed and Github copilot suggested some code which is from one of your sites I think. 😄

I haven't figured out why, but if you plot z = y * sin(x), it looks all wavy until you make your graph polar, at which point it becomes a perfectly flat disk.
