Pulse of Belarus

Though I may not have direct ties to Belarus, Belarus has always had a place deep in my heart, the oppression and atrocities of the Lukashenka regime against Belarusians and Ukrainians absolutely breaks my heart, and I want to do everything I can to hold the regime accountable.

Many are wondering, why is this account not based in Belarus? About me: I am the descendant of Belarusian exiles from the revolutionary era, I have a deep passion in fighting for the freedom of Belarusians. I am currently based out of Ottawa, Canada.

The Lukashenka regime, by allowing Russian occupation forces to invade Ukraine through Belarusian soil, is 100% complicit in the Bucha Massacre, and the entire regime must be held accountable for its role in the atrocities near Kyiv.

Groups like @bysolfund continue to support LGBTQ Belarusians in these uncertain times.

As of early 2026, the Lukashenka regime has passed a repressive new law targeting LGBTQ+ Belarusians, the law is a clear violation of their human rights and puts many innocent people at risk of persecution based on their identity.

Unfortunately due to the suppression of Belarusian language and culture by the Lukashenka Regime, most people continue to use Russian names to identify Belarusian cities and regions. We need to change that, as using Russian names legitimizes occupation. #BELARUSNOTBYELORUSSIA

Belarus has one of the highest numbers of political prisoners out of any country in the world, yet the world is silent on this matter. We cannot stop fighting until every Belarusian political prisoner is released.

It’s a great honour that the 2025 #MagnitskyAward for Outstanding Opposition Politicians was awarded to my husband Siarhei and me. I was proud to accept it last night on behalf of all brave Belarusians whose courage and resilience keep our fight for freedom and democracy alive.

Why can’t Lukashenka be trusted? Journalist Ihar Karnei was released from a Belarusian prison in a release facilitated by the @POTUS 🇺🇸 administration. Now the Belarusian regime has put Karnei on the wanted list – after forcibly exiling him from Belarus to Lithuania.
