January 1677: Karnataka, Miyana brothers and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj 🗡️
We heard the news that Karnataka administration had removed the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj on the night of 16th August. It pained us so much. But we thought rather than showing anger, we must tell our people from Karnataka some historical facts, because after all We Are One! 🇮🇳
⚔️ Battle of Koppal ⚔️
In the 1670s, Koppal province of Karnataka was under the rule of Adilshah’s general Abdul Rahimkhan Miyana and his brother Hussain Miyana. Both brothers committed atrocities against the people.
When the people of Karnataka learnt about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's bravery, they sent fervent appeals to Maharaj to rescue them from the atrocities handed to them by the Miana brothers.
Maharaj then sent his Sarsenapati Hambirrao. In Yelburga, on January 1677, both armies collided. Hambirrao and Dhanaji Jadhav showed incomparable valor in this battle. More than half of Adilshah’s army was killed in this battle. Hambirrao killed Abdul Miyana and imprisoned Hussain Miyana.
During this battle Nagoji Jedhe lost his life while fighting for the people of Koppal, he was in his teens!
It is sad that some people of Karnataka have forgotten this history. This is why Indian history must be taught in schools. Indian history is a constant reminder of the fact that WE ARE ONE since ages. 🇮🇳
