One of the most exciting infrastructure projects in Britain right now. If we could build tunnels like the Norwegians we could build new motorways and railways so cheaply that they could be self-funding. The biggest prize is Manchester to Sheffield. thetimes.com/uk/transport/a…

The former Sheffield United goalkeeper Nina Wilson passionately listed a series of recommendations for the sport today, at the inquest into Maddy Cusack's death. Wilson told the court she had left football aged 25 because of her experiences. Here are her suggestions, as a thread:

Higher taxes that most people will pay? Or spending cuts that most people will feel? That's it. Pick one. If your answer is "government waste" or "tax the rich", then you're part of the problem. The strategy of taxing "other people" has run out of road.

Hull City striker Oli McBurnie has revealed he rang up Steve Clarke ahead of his most recent Scotland squad selection: “He said to me he builds his squads on loyalty and that Ché Adams and Lyndon Dykes have done really well for him. “So he sees those two ahead of me. “He doesn’t see me as a third or fourth-choice striker, so he’s comparing me against Ché and Lyndon, and he sees them ahead of me.” 29-year-old McBurnie has 22 goal involvements (14G, 8A) in the Championship this season. @yegordb Would love to see materials... Am wrestling with OKRs on AI that seems counterproductive so really interested to see the thinking on measurement

Full room for our new class CS 321M: AI Measurement Science today! Why the class matters: Every field that ignored measurement science paid the price Psychometrics ran into a simple problem: - a low score could mean a bad student… or just a harder test - That forced them to build better ways to measure ability instead of just raw scores Finance learned it in 2008 - Toxic mortgages were labeled safe. The ratings looked precise, but they didn’t reflect reality - As long as the numbers looked good, the system kept going… until it unraveled Medicine is the clearest case - In the CAST trial, drugs reduced irregular heartbeats. On paper, that looked like success - In reality, more patients died. The metric improved, but the outcome got worse In each case, the metrics looked right while the outcomes were not AI is starting to look similar: - Benchmarks go up and leaderboards improve - But models shift, scores drift away from real-world use, and systems get optimized for the metric instead of the outcome We’re already using these numbers (benchmarks, metrics) to make decisions about deployment, regulation, and trust. Measurement is the foundation of science. If it’s off, everything built on it is too. We’ll be sharing more distilled insights from the class - make sure to follow along! Comment if you want the full materials (slides, textbook, etc.) (And if you commented on my last post - we're working hard to get the materials to you!)

I want to give you a full set of @Stanford course materials on how to measure AI. I'm on the teaching team for a new class: CS 321M - AI Measurement Science. Comment or reshare and I'll send you everything: slides, readings, textbook. Why does this class exist? Because most AI benchmarks are already broken. Saturated, partly memorized, or disconnected from real use. Yet we still use them to pick models, justify budgets, and shape policy. AI moves fast and measurement hasn't kept up. This class covers what goes wrong with benchmarks, how to design evaluations that hold up, and what valid measurement looks like. If we can't measure AI we can't improve it. I think this material matters way beyond one classroom. Help me get it out there.

@ThePinchNews I missed the poll.... I think it's skewed... Maybe they can bring a 10% upside but if you pick someone shit you can have far greater downside.

Giving a club free rein to spend freely on players after failing to meet any of its obligations would make zero sense. Every club coming out of admin has faced similar squad restrictions, But the difference here is Wednesday have not paid 25p in the £ too.
