I remember the buzz around the Tony Elumelu Foundation grant like it was yesterday. Back in 2018, I teamed up with a group of young and passionate entrepreneurs, all eager to turn our branding business idea into reality. We worked tirelessly, pouring our hearts into the application. When the winners were announced, we were over the moon. But what followed was a tough lesson in teamwork. The others suddenly went radio silent on me, taking the spotlight (and the grant) for themselves. 😔 No hard feelings, as I did put in effort but didn’t contribute financially to the logistics, however I still felt my input deserved some recognition, atleast my name shouldn’t have been expunged from the final presentation. Despite the letdown, I admire Tony Elumelu's vision. The foundation gave them a chance to fly; and they did, without looking back. Once again, no hard feelings. $5,000 in 2018 no be small money, but I didn’t get a penny. I turned the lesson into building AlsMediaHub in 2019; and I made loads of money and worked with big and fantastic brands including UBA and Heirs Holding. It was a harsh reminder that entrepreneurship isn't just about ideas, but about people. Still, TEF's impact on Nigerian youth is undeniable. So this is me saying Happy, Happy, Happy birthday in advance, Mr. Tony Elumelu. Thank you for all that you do for young African entrepreneurs! And I am also wishing those participating in the #TEF2026 empowerment cohort starting tomorrow, all the very best. Please learn from my experience.

Getting to know Asake worked with Dagunro and was peers with the likes of Tinuomi in Yoruba nollywood industry is a huge discovery. That brother has come a very long way and deserves every good thing coming his way today.

I just finished watching the full Asake’s homecoming documentary by KortyEO and I’ve not been super-impressed as I was by any of such lately. His calm demeanor throughout the video, the visible maturity, the originality, the growth and the love around him. Too beautiful ❤️
