Busy session today for Year 10, marking the final stages of our Photoshop unit by making their own versions of 'pro' posters. Challenge was to collect separate assets & organise on multiple layers so they could experiment with tools & techniques. 'Positives' all round for class!

It was all about Photoshop again this week for Year 10, who experimented with layer masks and clipping masks to extend their skills with digital images. Students also enjoyed a bit of ‘silly’ practice with a virtual visit for some of their fave superheroes to Kirkby Lonsdale!

We love to be inspired by projects across the creative industries, such as this new book from @Counterprint giving a deep dive on graphic design. We’d also love to hear from any local creatives who are willing to share some time with our students. Please get in touch!

Year 10’s post-Easter project has been focused on Photoshop and developing a new skillset with digital images. One early project was inspired by the duotones used on Spotify. Great to see our students using gradient masks on everything from fave bands & movies to footie managers!

Year 11 have been out on photo shoots to collect snapshots of practical work across our Pathways. They used both DSLR and smartphone cameras before experimenting in Photoshop back in class. Next stage is to produce the new cover for next year’s QEStudio planner. Watch this space!

‘Space’ was the theme for our final stop frame challenge just before Easter for Year 10, who signed off with some great extra-terrestrial animation! As well as a lot of fun, the unit has also laid the foundation for a project this summer using motion graphics with After Effects.

Spot the tomato with the googly eyes – it just has to be another bit of fun with stop frame animation! Thanks to Helen in Café Studio for supplying the fruit & veg for Year 10’s next animation challenge. Amazing what you can also do with a carrot, some paper cut outs and an app!

Tons of fun mixed with new creative skills - that was Day One on a new stop frame animation project for Year 10 yesterday. Amazing what you can so with paper, scissors and an app! We'll keep working on our skills with storyboards, shooting and editing over coming weeks!

Great teamwork yesterday with Key Stage 3 pupils helping our our Sixth Formers in QEStudio with their game projects. Younger pupils were brilliant at giving feedback - helped with a wee bit of motivation from Cadburys! 😀 Year 13 are just finishing their games made with Unity,

Who on earth could rapidly prototype an app and a game in 90 minutes? Only the super-talented students on yesterday's Taster Day for our 'DC' Pathway in Sixth Form! Great fun seeing them get creative using Adobe XD and Unity to make protoypes with their fave movies, games & teams

Massive thanks to Jonny Moss from Scratch Creative, who today gave Y10 a fantastic insight into the design industry. Jonny squeezed in a ton of topics, from recent projects to career advice. That's why we feel so lucky working with professional partners. Much appreciated, Jonny!

Year 11 are slowly morphing to web designers, as they learn the basics using HTML and CSS in Brackets. Today's task involved using video, while editing and styling a simple page. All looking forward to next week, when @wearenetdev will share industry insights on web design!

Big day tomorrow for our Year 10 with a virtual visit from @scratch_creative to share 'pro' tips on creating branded packaging. Will really help our students on their latest project - creating branded wrappers for choc bars. Great to see their designs taking shape in Illustrator!

Thanks to 'Team DC' in Y10 for helping spread some festive cheer around the studio building, with some hand-made 'Happy Christmas' graphics posted on our wall screens. Well done to the whole group for the way they've developed their skills in Illustrator this term. Happy Xmas!

Well done to Y10 for completing our logo project by showcasing their work on our special 'CREATE' site for the first time. Made for use across QEStudio, the site was built by professional partner @wearenetdev. CREATE is a great way for students to build a professional portfolio!

Our digital comics are starting to really take shape, with the Year 11 group spending a couple of hours last week to take their sketches into Illustrator to create scenes, characters and storylines. Looking forwards to seeing some finished comic strips tomorrow...
