Коли ми повертали в Україну полковника Андрія Мельника та його дружину Софію через Закарпаття та ще пів країни у нашу вільну столицю, у Київ, на цьому шляху не було розбрату, який так часто раніше збивав нас, збивав Україну з ніг. Не було сумнівів, хто є справжнім ворогом для України й хто – її друзями, партнерами та братами. І була наша вдячність, наша безумовна вдячність усім, хто своє життя поставив на службу Україні й завдяки кому Україна витримує російські удари та зберігається, – вдячність нашим воїнам, вдячність усім нашим людям. Полковник Андрій Мельник повернувся в Україну іншу: не ту, яку змушений був залишити, а ту, про яку мріяв. Мріяв він і ще тисячі інших таких значимих українських постатей. Я дякую усім, хто справді старається, щоб наша українська національна пам’ять залишалася пам’яттю живою. Я вдячний кожному й кожній, хто працював, щоб таке повернення українських величних постатей відбувалось і щоб Український народ отримав свій пантеон героїв. Слава кожному українському герою! Слава всім нашим українським воїнам! Слава нашому народу!

As we were bringing Colonel Andriy Melnyk and his wife Sofia back to Ukraine – through Zakarpattia and then across half the country to our free capital, Kyiv – this path was not marked by the discord that had so often knocked us, and Ukraine, off our feet in the past. There were no doubts about who Ukraine’s true enemy is, and who its friends, partners, and brothers are. And what was there was gratitude – our unconditional gratitude to all those who have dedicated their lives to serving Ukraine, and thanks to whom Ukraine withstands Russian strikes and continues to endure – gratitude to our warriors, gratitude to all our people. Colonel Andriy Melnyk returned to a different Ukraine – not the one he had been forced to leave, but the one he had dreamed of. He dreamed of it – as did thousands of other such significant Ukrainian figures. I thank all those who are truly doing their best to ensure that our Ukrainian national memory remains a living memory. I am grateful to everyone who has worked to make such returns of great Ukrainian figures possible and to give the Ukrainian People their own pantheon of heroes. Glory to every Ukrainian hero! Glory to all our Ukrainian warriors! Glory to our people!

Hellish night in Kyiv. Didn’t know if I’d wake up. When there’s nothing on the battlefield, Russia wages war on market stalls and apartment blocks, murdering people in their sleep.

Since last night, first responders and all necessary services have been working wherever needed. As of now, at least 83 people have been confirmed injured since midnight. Tragically, there are fatalities. My condolences to the families and loved ones. It was a heavy attack – 90 missiles of various types, many of them ballistic missiles – 36 in total. There were 600 drones. Unfortunately, not all of the ballistic missiles were intercepted – the largest number of hits was in Kyiv. Kyiv was the primary target of this Russian attack. Putin can’t even pronounce the word “hurrah” clearly anymore – slurs and mumbles – yet he is still vanquishing residential buildings with his missiles. Launched three Russian missiles against a water supply facility. Burned down a market. Damaged dozens of residential buildings. Hit several ordinary schools. Launched his “Oreshnik” against Bila Tserkva. They really are unhinged. It is important that this does not pass without consequences for Russia. Today, everyone in the world who will not stay silent and chooses to help Ukraine is a defender of life. It is critically important to continue working to secure air defense for Ukraine, especially anti-ballistic capabilities. We are doing our best to achieve peace and protect people – everything. It is important that Ukraine is not alone. Decisions are needed – from the United States, from Europe and others – to make that old “Oreshnik” in Moscow finally utter the word “peace.”
