Qatar's Permanent Representative Participates in Task Force to Eliminate Remnants of Former Syrian Regime's Chemical Weapons Program New York | March 19, 2026 HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani participated in the launch event of the "Breath of Freedom Task Force," which is concerned with removing the remaining elements of the chemical weapons program of the former Syrian regime, at the United Nations headquarters in New York. In her speech, Her Excellency congratulated the Syrian Arab Republic and its permanent delegation to the United Nations on the occasion of the launch of the international task force led by Syria, dedicated to removing the remnants of the chemical weapons program. Her Excellency indicated that the State of Qatar is proud to join the international task force alongside the Republic of Turkiye, Canada, the French Republic, the Federal Republic of Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, voicing her eagerness to work actively with them to achieve the task force's core objectives. Her Excellency added that this initiative represents a new phase in Syria, focusing on the safety, security and well-being of the fraternal Syrian people, as well as the complete and final removal of the threat of chemical weapons from Syria and the region alike. These claims are rejected and cannot be accepted under any justification. The clearest evidence of this is that yesterday’s attack targeted a natural gas facility in the State of Qatar, which constitutes a source of livelihood for the Qatari people—not only for the Qatari people, but also, as a result of this attack, for millions of people whom the State of Qatar supports. #MOFAQatar

Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs @MBA_AlThani_ Meets Turkish Foreign Minister @HakanFidan Doha | March 19, 2026 HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani met in Doha on Thursday with HE Minister of Foreign Affairs of he Republic of Turkiye Hakan Fidan. The two sides discussed the developments of the military escalation in the region and its serious repercussions on regional and international security and stability, as well as ways to resolve all disputes peacefully. They touched on enhancing coordination to tackle current challenges. During the meeting, HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated his condemnation of the Iranian attacks on Qatari territory, stating that they are unacceptable under any pretext or justification. He noted that the State of Qatar has always been keen to distance itself from regional conflicts and has sought to facilitate dialogue between Iran and the international community. His Excellency emphasized that the Iranian targeting of energy facilities constitutes a blatant violation of the principles of international law and a serious threat to global energy security, the environment, and freedom of navigation. The meeting was also attended by foreign ministers and representatives of the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the sisterly Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the sisterly United Arab Emirates, the sisterly Kingdom of Bahrain, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the sisterly Republic of Turkiye, the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic, the sisterly State of Kuwait, the sisterly Republic of Lebanon, and the sisterly Arab Republic of Egypt. The meeting, convened by Saudi Arabia to discuss Iranian escalation and enhance regional coordination to protect the region's stability, strongly condemned the Iranian missile and drone attacks, deeming them a violation of sovereignty and international law. It held Iran fully responsible for the losses, calling for an immediate and unconditional cessation of aggression and adherence to Security Council resolutions. Joint Statement Issued by the Consultative Ministerial Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of a Group of Arab and Islamic Countries Regarding the Iranian Attacks Riyadh | 19 March 2026 Their Highnesses and Excellencies the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, The Republic of Azerbaijan, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the State of Kuwait, the Republic of Lebanon, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Syrian Arab Republic, the Republic of Türkiye and the United Arab Emirates, held a consultative ministerial meeting on Wednesday, 29 Ramadan 1447 AH, corresponding to 18 March 2026 AD, in Riyadh regarding the Iranian attacks. The Ministers discussed the Iranian attacks on the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, The Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Republic of Türkiye, and they affirmed their condemnation and denunciation of these Iranian deliberate attacks with ballistic missiles and drones which targeted residential areas, civilian infrastructure, including oil facilities, desalination plants, airports, residential buildings, and diplomatic premises. The Ministers further affirmed that such attacks could not be justified under any pretext or in any manner whatsoever. The Ministers also stressed the right of states to defend themselves in accordance with Article (51) of the United Nations Charter.The Ministers called on Iran to immediately halt its attacks and affirmed the necessity of respecting international law, international humanitarian law, and the principles of good neighborliness, as a first toward ending the escalation, and achieving security and stability in the region, and promoting diplomacy as a means to resolve crisis. The Ministers further emphasized that the future of relations with Iran depends on respecting the sovereignty of states and non-inference in their internal affairs, as well as refraining from violating their sovereignty or their territories in any manner whatsoever, and to not use or develop its military capabilities to threaten countries of the region. The Ministers stressed the need for Iran to abide by implementing the Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), which called for an immediate halt to all attacks, and unconditional cessation of any provocative acts or threats against neighboring states, and the cessation of support, financing and arming its affiliated militias in Arab countries, which Iran is doing to serve its goals and against the interests of these countries. Furthermore, to refrain from any measures or threats aimed at closing or obstructing international navigation in the Strait of Hormuz or threatening maritime security in Bab al-Mandab. The Ministers reaffirmed support for the security, stability and territorial integrity of Lebanon, activating the sovereignty of the Lebanese state over all its territories, and supporting the Lebanese government's decision to limit weapons to the state. They also condemned Israel's aggression against Lebanon and its expansionist policy in the region. The Ministers reaffirm their commitment to continuing intensive consultation and coordination in this regard, to monitor developments and assess emerging issues in a way that ensure the formulation of common positions and the adoption of necessary legitimate measures and procedures to protect their security, stability, and sovereignty, and to halt the Iranian heinous attacks on their territories. #MOFAQatar

Qatar Sends Ninth Identical Letter to UN, UNSC Regarding Iranian Aggression on its Territory New York | March 19, 2026 The State of Qatar sent its ninth identical letter to HE Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres and HE Permanent Representative of the United States of America to the United Nations and President of the Security Council for the month of March, Michael Waltz, regarding the latest developments of the Iranian aggression on its territory. This aggression constitutes a flagrant violation of its national sovereignty, a direct threat to its security and territorial integrity, and an unacceptable escalation that jeopardizes the security and stability of the region. The letter was sent by HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani. The letter noted that from the beginning of the attack on the State of Qatar on February 28, 2026, until March 16, 2026, its air defense systems have intercepted several hostile aerial targets, pointing out that civilian injuries resulted from these heinous attacks. It stated that all damages and losses resulting from the attacks will be assessed by the relevant authorities, noting that further updates would be provided as they become available. The letter emphasized that these attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran continued even after the Security Council adopted Resolution 2817 (2026), co-sponsored by 136 countries, which condemned in the strongest terms Iran's heinous attacks on the State of Qatar and neighboring countries, and demanded an immediate end to all such attacks. It also reiterated the State of Qatar's strong condemnation of this targeting and its full right to respond in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, a right affirmed by Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), in a manner commensurate with the nature of the aggression, in defense of its sovereignty and to safeguard its security and national interests. The State of Qatar also requested that this letter be circulated as an official document of the Security Council. #MOFAQatar

Qatar Declares Iranian Embassy Military, Security Attaches "Persona Non Grata" Doha | March 18, 2026 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered an official note to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the State, stating that Qatar considers both the military attache and the security attache at the embassy, in addition to the staff of the two attache offices "persona non grata", and requests that they leave the country within a maximum period of (24) hours. This came during a meeting held Wednesday between HE Director of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ibrahim Yousif Fakhro, and HE Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the State Ali Salehabadi. The ministry explained that this decision comes in response to repeated Iranian targeting and the blatant aggression against the State of Qatar, which violated its sovereignty and security, in a flagrant breach of the principles of international law, United Nations Security Council Resolution No. (2817), and the principles of good neighborliness. The ministry stressed that the continuation of this hostile approach by the Iranian side will be met with additional measures by the State of Qatar, in a manner that ensures the protection of its sovereignty, security, and national interests. The ministry affirmed that the State of Qatar reserves the right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and security, in accordance with the provisions of international law. #MOFAQatar

Statement | Qatar Condemns, Denounces Blatant Iranian Attack on Ras Laffan Industrial City Doha | March 18, 2026 The State of Qatar expresses its strong condemnation and denunciation of the blatant Iranian attack targeting Ras Laffan Industrial City, which caused fires resulting in significant damage to the facility. It describes the attack as a dangerous escalation, a flagrant violation of state sovereignty, and a direct threat to its national security and regional stability. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirms that despite Qatar's policy of distancing itself from this war since its outset and its commitment to avoiding any escalation, the Iranian side continues to target it and neighboring countries in an irresponsible approach that undermines regional security and threatens international peace. The ministry stresses that Qatar has repeatedly called for the need to refrain from targeting civilian and energy facilities, including within the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in order to preserve the resources of the region's peoples and safeguard international peace and security. However, the Iranian side continues its escalatory policies that are pushing the region toward the brink and drawing countries not party to this crisis into the conflict zone. The Israeli targeting of facilities linked to Iran’s South Pars field, an extension of Qatar’s North Field, is a dangerous & irresponsible step amid the current military escalation in the region. Targeting energy infrastructure constitutes a threat to global energy security, as well as to the peoples of the region & its environment. We reiterate, as we have repeatedly emphasized, the necessity of avoiding the targeting of vital facilities. We call on all parties to exercise restraint, adhere to international law, & work toward de-escalation in a manner that preserves the security & stability of the region.
